Hi all,
I have attached a portion of an 1851 census return for the Stoddart Family in Allonby, Cumberland.
Is there anyone who can help me read the highlighted areas of the head's occupation and his wife's birthplace?
Many thanks.

I think the place of birth looks like Denderron but I can't find anything like it on Genuki.

Yeah, Ancestry.co.uk has it transcribed as 'Denderron' but there is no such place in Cumberland or anywhere else.

Yeah, she's the one who said she was born in Wigton living in Maryport, Crosscanonby in 1861.

Yes, that could explain it - I couldn't quite justify it as a direct transcription of the name, but maybe a slight corruption like that?

NICE ONE Arranroots!! Cheers for that one! It looks good.
Any luck with the Head's occupation? It seems that he was a grocer in 1841.

I agree with Tati's interpretation - Messenger to Agent.
Do you have marriage details - I suppose it will be after 1837, but if not they would be useful in establishing the wife's father's name (and her maiden name), which might help sort out her birthplace.
Have you checked the IGI?
kind regards, Arranroots

Their first child was born in 1826/1827,
The only marriage I have been able to find is this one (http://www.rootschat.com/links/03a8/) in the IGI for 20 May 1826 between Joseph Stoddart and Margaret Thornthwaite in Aspatria.
According to the IGI, Margaret Thornthwaite was born on 28 Mar 1797 and baptised on 29 Apr 1797 in Allonby... It's not that far from Wigton but quite far for a baptism. Then again I don't know their circumstances.
