Now -  Job and Elizabeth's son Herbert born 1866. On the 1871 he was born March Cambs but in 1881 he was born St Ives Hunts. Expect they got a bit mixed up Roll Eyes

Anyway must be correct as he is with the Heath family - maiden name of his mum, Elizabeth

I haven't been able to trace Herbert in 1891/1901

There is a Herbert Upton discharged  from Cambridgeshire Regiment in 1915 which may be him. Age is ambiguous but is given bewtween 1864 and 1872.

The one thing which makes me suspect it is him is the fact that the next of kin is his Nephew Samuel Upton, Red Lion, March Cambs.
little other informaton except that he was discharged as being unlikely to become an efficient soldier. Reasons given: old age, history of alcoholism and varicose veins. Not surprising if his dad ran a pub and looks as though Sam did as well(if it is him)

Hi Tricia
Thats an amazing amount of information. I think you are right with Samuel and the red lion as I remember my mother telling me that one of my Grandparents lived there years ago when I came home from there a little worse for the drink. Am I right that would be Job who is calling himself Samuel. I never knew my family ran the Nelson pub in Norwood road but they did seem to get about a bit  Grin
Do you have any advice or ideas as to how I can find where Job Samuel is buried as it seems to be a mystery in our family.

Thanks very much
