Kilmichael, Urquhart
« on: Monday 21 April 08 21:14 BST (UK) »

Some of my ancestors lived - according to several census - in Kilmichael.

The number of families varies from 3 to 11 in the various census, so it is not the name of a house.  Nor looking at the work of the redidents would it sem to be an estate.  So guess it must be a hamlet.

Have tried to locate it on the map with no luck.  Tried tracing it by reading census descriptions but...

Can anyone give me any information as to the location Kilmichael?

Hi Win

there's a place called Kilmichael approximately half a mile north of Drumnadrochit. The Ordnance Survey grid reference is NH5030. Kilmichael doesn't feature on the "ordinary" maps - you need to go into a more detailed map to see it. It's halfway between the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition Centre and a place called Easter Milton, if that's any help!

Best wishes

Hi Lynn,

Found it at last!  I had tried OS before but obviously my eyes weren't working on those occasions

I think I may have driven into it some years ago by accident before I knew there was a family connection.

Thanks again for your help,
