Hezekiah b 1840 in Hinstock SAL appears in the 1881 census at Mill Green Hinstock. He is still living with his mother Maria who was widowed. His father James's death is unknown to me and I would like to narrow down the period to search for his death.
Hopefully the 1861 and 1871 cesus records may help in this and I would be grateful for any help.

Hezekiah's not with his parents in 1871, but this looks like them - in Mill Green, Hinstock as are Maria etc in 1881. But Maria's husband is John, not James:

I wonder what happened to Hezekiah in 1851. He disappears for 30 years before coming home for the 1881 census after his father died. Perhaps he was living with a relative in 1851 whenn he would be only 11.
Could someone please see if he is recorded in the 1851 census?

Graham, I've had the same thought - but unfortunately failed to find him anywhere in 1851, whether under his full name or variants, or even under his initials in case he was in an instutution. I haven't had time to do extensive searches in 1861-1871 for him, but he doesn't appear on a straightforward search.
Very mysterious! Will have another go later if he hasn't been found, but have to focus on the day job for a bit...

It is also intersting that Harriet disappers from 1841 when she should have only 2. Perhaps she was being brought up by Maria's parents in Tibberton

I found Hezekiah's death in FreeBMD as Dec 1914 in Market Drayton. I would be interested to know whether he married after 1881, and who he lived with. Maybe he is in the 1891 or 1901 census? There is a Hezekiah Jarvis who married in 1882 in St Geo H Squ. I wonder if it is he.
