Hi dry ginger,
I wonder if it might help if you posted this on the Lancashire Board .. either that or I can ask a mod to move it for you.
Kindest regards,
Pels

Hi dry ginger,
http://www.tameside.gov.uk/familyhistory website for Tameside local studies library, might be useful. Website's very good, makes me wish i had more family in that area
Genuki pages for Denton have 1832 directory extracts with 4 Bardsleys listed:
Bardsley Henry, farmer, Haughton Green Bardsley John, victualler Red Lion, Denton Bardsley Susannah, confectioner, Fairfield Bardsley William, hat manufacturer, Cross Gate, Audenshaw
Good luck, Barbara

Thank you to both Barbara & Pels for the information as I am new to the game of family tracking, so every bit of information I can get is very helpful. It is hard to know were to start looking when you live in oz and family came from England, So once again a big thank you. Dry Ginger

Hello Dry Ginger
If you are sure the year of the marriage was 1774 then please ignore my findings . On the IGI there is a marriage of a Robert BARDSLEY to a Martha HYDE . It took place 22 November 1778 at St . Michaels , Ashton under Lyne , Lancashire . This Church is one of the main ones in the area . Denton is approximately 3 miles from Ashton under Lyne and I wondered whether there was any connection to your research . If you think there could be then let me know and I can check the parish registers on microfilm if they are legible . Good luck Eric

Hi Eric, Thank you for your offer of help, I would be very grateful if you could check the parish records for me, as I am not sure were the date I have came from because it seems a bit strange that you have a date but no spouse name.Robert was born about 1750 and died 1825 in denton, lan, england. Iwas also wondering if it would have his parents listed. So thank you ,any bit of information will help. Regards Dry ginger

Hello Dry Ginger Thanks for your reply . I will check the records and try to get as much information as possible for you . I am afraid that you will not get parents details as it is before 1837 , the time when the registration details became more comprehensive . Regards Eric

Eric Thank you so much for your help. But I was going through my papers last night and discovered that the son Thomas was born in 1775 and James was born 15 jan 1780, so I am not sure were to go next. But in any case a very big thank you for going to the trouble to help me, It is diffcult living in another country trying to find your family roots. So this site is a god send, and I hope I can return the favour one day best wishes Ginger

Hello Dry Ginger Thanks for the reply . Forgot to mention on my post that I looked at 1774 at this particular church , St. Michaels but I could not find any marriage of a Robert Bardsley . With regards to the death you mentioned in 1825 , Denton is covered by the same local studies library so if I can give you anymore assistance I will do my best , although deaths at this time seem to be very hard to research . Eric
