I'd be very grateful for a look up in Ampthill transcript for the marriage on 16 Oct 1797 between Thomas GURNEY and Eliz Ann GOLDSMITH to see if there's any additional information. Neither appears to be from Ampthill, and they had no children baptised there

Eventually I get a Saturday morning to myself to go the library....  Roll Eyes

David, as it happens there is no additional info on this marriage, only that it was by licence.........

BUT don't despair..... the marriage licence index 1791 - 1812 has them.

G329 Thos Gurney, gent. of Ampthill, 21 & over, licence dated Oct 12 1797

he is to marry G138 Ann Goldsmith, daughter of Elizabeth of Ampthill, minor

G288 Thos Gregory, clerk of Henlow stood surety fror Thomas

G140 Elizabeth Goldsmith, stood surety for Ann

In the Beds PR series there are 4 volumes of marriage indexes at the Library & the Archives; which are available on microfiche from the Beds FHS

Vol 14 Marriage Licences 1747-1790
Vol 15 Marriage Licences 1578 -1618 and 1791-1812
Vol 81 Marriage Licences 1813-1848
Vol 82 Marriage Licences 1848-1885

Some of them are online at Ancestry in the Parish & Probate database (& include 'Shotley Taxpayers' which is incorrect & discussed previously) - however this Gurney/Goldsmith marriage isn't there.

Wish there was sunshine here, WE woke up to snow this morning.

That's useful; thanks John. I'd checked on Ancestry but they weren't there, and didn't realise they were available on fiche. Must try to work out exactly what years are on Ancestry and then get fiches for the rest
