Hello Monica & L L,
The Ayr Adverstiser seems to be a great source of information. I would be interest to look at it, can it be accessed online or who would I contact for a hard copy?
For your information Grace Hardie is my great, great grandmother who emmigrated to New Zealand on the ship The Armstrong, arriving in NZ 18 Feb 1865, with her husband Charlie McMaster, her baby Charles & Robert Hardie (presumably Grace's brother).
Thank you both once again for the time & work you have given to my family research.
Christine

Hi Christine,
The East Ayrshire Family History Society is a really good start as a contact. They have many publications that you can purchase as well as access to the AA and have been really good doing lookups for me as I have no access directly to the indexes or Fiche being in Canada myself.
The Dick Institue has also started to index many of the old papers from the area and to access look ups you can contact the Baird Institute
Community Librarian (Heritage Services) Tel: 01290 421701 Email: baird.institute@east-ayrshire.gov.uk
Is there any more help you require on your tree?

I haven't worked out who these Douglas people are? A different Gabriel to Gabriel 1784? See below
This looks to be Gabriel in the 1841 census. I'll list as is showing on FreeCen rather than the other index. Everyone showing as born in the county:
Gabriel Douglass 55, inn keeper, Jane Douglass 45 Richard Douglass 25, Independent Ann Douglass 5 Marry Gerran 25, servant James Gibb 20, printer Margt Nouat 10 Marry Nouat 15 Marry Wallace 15, servant John Anderson 20, coachman
Address: Tempelhill, Dundonald Ayrshire
