I wonder if anyone can help. I'm trying to find information regarding the Butcher family from Horsmonden.
This is what I have so far, such as it is:
Thomas (b. abt. 1800 - not sure where) married in 1821 to Elizabeth (nee Pearson) b. abt. 1802, Horsmonden. Thomas died abt. 1843 and Elizabeth abt. 1851 both in Horsmonden.
They had 12 children: James abt. 1821: William abt. 1822: Sarah abt. 1823: Thomas abt. 1824: Charles abt. 1826: Elizabeth abt. 1828: John T. abt. 1829: Mary abt. 1831: George abt. 1835: Jane abt. 1838: Edwin abt. 1841 and finally, Emily abt. 1843.
Apart from Charles (upon whom my information is pretty scant), and William who pops up once in the 1851 census, I can find nothing else about this family.
Getting to the point (finally), can anyone find this family in any census? In particular, I'm looking for information on Charles (my g.g.grandfather), his brothers William and John who both emigrated to Shiawassee, Michigan (and died there in 1903 and 1909 respectively) and Edwin who went to New Zealand and died there.
Any help would be very much appreciated.

Hi There is another thread about Edwin Butcher so it might be worth linking them. Andrea

Wow thanks for that. One day I'll (hopefully) work out why I can search for hours and find nothing and yet, when someone says 'isn't this them?' it all becomes so blindingly obvious as to be embarrassing.
The mystery of Edwin Butcher will be solved another time - clearly mine and the migrant aren't one and the same. I know, being helpful, someone will suggest trying to make a connection between the two but, for now, you've all given me so much that I shall spend the next few evenings happily trying to marry them altogether (figuratively speaking you understand!). Ooooh look - AgLabs, what a surprise
I am really grateful for your help. Thank you.
