Hi all,
I feel I have hit a brick wall in my tree, and sorely need the advice of all you experts to tell me where to go from here.
I am trying to find out more about my gt x3 grandfather. Since he died in 1850, the only census he appears is in 1841, and hence I have no birth town.
1841: Davygate, St Helen's Stonegate, York (sub reg district Bootham)
Charles Frost 57-coachman- Yorkshire
and his family.
His death register is: jan/feb/mar 1850, Hunslet, Yks 23 213
I can trace most of his sons and daughters, and his wife, through all the censuses, but I just can't find Charles in the igi indexes, or his marriage to Mary, or Mary's maiden name.
Some of his children I have found in the igi indexes:
Hannah Frost - 20 june 1824, All Saints Pavement, York. F -Charles Frost, M- Mary
Susannah Frost - 20 June 1824, All Saints Pavement, York, ditto
John Vickers Frost- 12 nov 1826, All Saints Pavement and St Peter the Little. ditto
Margaret Lydia Frost - 24 april 1831, St Helen, York. ditto
Eliza Frost - 27 july 1834, St Helen, York ditto
I can't seem to find Mary b. 1821
I have 'asumed' that Mary's maiden name could well be Vickers, and from the info. in different censuses conclude that she was from Birkby, Yorkshire, although she also mentions Durham in other censuses and also Darlington.
In future censuses their son John is down as John Vigar Frost and also on his marriage certificate.
Where do I go from here? I welcome any suggestions!!

Hi Gillian,
I suppose you have noticed that in 1841 Charles says he was not born in Yorkshire. Where to start???

Hi all,
Would just like to make a big public THANK YOU to roots chat member, 'Gillywilly' who sent me a personal message with details of Charles Frost's burial records in Hunslet, and which gave his birth year as 1779. This opens my field of possibilities by five years...which is actually a good thing 
Update: I am now proceeding to investigate the families of all the Charles Frosts born in England on IGI indexes btn 1778-1788 and check for resemblance to family names, etc. Also, due to his age, I believe that Charles had other children before the ones that appear in the 1841 census, and considering the ten year age gap btn him and Mary, probably even a first marriage.
Hopefully, when I have pinpointed some potencial candidates, some nice person on roots chat  will help me check to see if they appear in the 1841 census...obviously anyone who appears is not my man.

Hi all,
Continuing with my search for gt gt gt grandad could someone please look in the 1841 census and see if the following guy appears:
Charles Frost b. 27 sept 1778, Kidderminster, Worcester. Father: Joseph. Mother: Hannah. Wife: Elizabeth.
This guy fits in lots of ways, although he was married....I'm hoping that his first wife Elizabeth died  and that he married Mary about 1823-5.
I have more info on his children with Elizabeth if you need it.

I'm very very excited to see the information that you sent and I was wondering if I could ask another favour. When I first started my tree I found on the Pallot's marriage index on Ancestry a Charles Frost marrying a Mary....Mansfield...I think it was in 1822. For some reason I didn't pursue it more, and stupidly didn't save a copy....and now I don't have access to ancestry's records.
Could you please look it up for me
By the way, I'm going to risk embarrassing myself and ask what is probably a very stupid question  ...What is BiVRI??

Sorry to get you to look for nothing......but WOW, I am so grateful for the info. you gave me for Charles Frost from Mansfield. The igi indexes have many Frosts and Slacks from Mansfield...and the Frost names match my family names.... so it is looking very, very hopeful.
