hostels in the 1940s

i was wondering if anyone could help me,my grandfather was a yugoslavian who came to england in 1947 as a displaced person, the first place he was sent was kaec somerhill camp in tonbridge kent,has anyone any idea what this place was,or know where i could get any information about it??

If you google for Somerhill Camp Tonbridge you will find a lot of references to it ie..

During World war II a POW Camp was built on the junction of Tudeley Lane and Pembury Road on land belonging to Somerhill. It was used to house both German pilots whom had been shot down, and also captured Italian soldiers. After the war the camp was used as temporary housing for people made homeless by the Blitz. The site is now occupied by the Weald of Kent Girls' Grammar School.
