I can't see a Cecil WARD with a wife called Emily in any census. Huh

It's always best to work backwards from what you know.  Do you have any birth, marriage or death certificates which might help pin her down?

Hi Moley

Could your grandparents be Dorothy G WARD and Frank C KNOWLDEN who married in Medway registration district September quarter 1927 ref. 2a 2087 http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ or is that a different couple Huh

Hi Moley

We might be getting somewhere now Wink

Here is the marriage of your grandparents - Frank Cecil KNOWLDEN married Dorothy Grace WARD (age 21) at St Mary Chatham 30 July 1927.  Dorothy's address is given as 12 Charles Street, Chatham and she named her father as George WARD.  I'm not quite sure about George's middle name - it is hard to read - Samon/Gamon? Undecided

http://www.rootschat.com/links/03ag/

If we look at freebmd http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/ , although this isn't a complete index it is the main free one, there is a Dorothy Grace WARD birth registered in the September quarter of 1906 Medway registration district ref. 2a 748.  Luckily for those who have ancestry in the Medway area, like yourself, the parish registers are mostly online at Medway Cityark http://www.rootschat.com/links/0bl/

I thought I'd start looking for Dorothy's baptism in St Mary Chatham but the images are painfull slow to download at the minute (I'm not sure if it's the site or my computer) ............ perhaps you'd like to take a look.  Might you be more familiar with the area so know which churches are the most likely ones for her baptism?

Hi Moley

Did your grandmother, Dorothy WARD, have any siblings that you know of?  If so, do you have their names/dates of birth etc. ie. anything which may help us to pinpoint a marriage for her parents?

Do you know who the M? E WARD is that witnessed Dorothy's marriage?

Inicidentally, did you find Dorothy's baptism?

Hi Moley

When were each of Dorothy's siblings born (rough years will do) Huh

Ivy
Emily
James Stanley
Cecil

If you don't know when they were born perhaps you have some idea who each of them married and when/where they died (later death indexes give dates of birth) which might give us a clue ie. if there were any born prior to the 1901 census or if there were any born post 1912 when mother's maiden names are given in the GRO birth index Undecided
