Agnes Hogg - Tynron
« on: Tuesday 22 April 08 23:24 BST (UK) »

I'm trying to trace the parents of an Agnes Hogg, born c1818, Tynron Parish.  All I have on her is that she married a John Templeton at Glencairn Parish in 1838 (which tells nothing of help), and died before 1854 as that is when John Templeton remarried.

Her approx year of birth and place of birth is from the 1851 census.  She had 6 children.

By sheer coincidence I have just updated a thread about a Dumfries Hogg family, so I may as well tell you what I found. One possible set of parents for my Jane Hogg born 1789 Dumfries is William Hogg and Florence Dempster. They had a Jane Hogg in Tynron in 1788.

I looked up the family of William and Florence and it goes like this.
Agnes 1786
Jean 1788
Marion 1808

There are several possibilities here. Maybe there were also sons I haven't found, one of whom had a daughter Agnes named after his sister. Or perhaps another branch of the family had an Agnes. But I think there must be a connection somewhere.

Thanks for the info, the trouble is I have nothing at the moment to verify any names against.  Tried Scotlandspeople and been to Tynron churchyard in the chance there may have been a headstone relating to the family.
