Thanks for the link. Yes, very interesting reading about the Gold Rush days in Canada. The writer describing it as the most wicked country in the world. Having recently toured there I was familiar with some of the locations mentioned in the letters - vastly different from today's modern cities, highways, railways etc.......... The poor author of the letter indicated it took him 5 years of digging to find gold, only for the ground to freeze up after 3 days, and mining stop.
If you like "raw" down to earth history, these letters make fascinating reading. They have been transcribed for easier reading, though spelling and grammar have been left unedited.
