I have just discovered that my 4x Gt Grandfather was b.Duffus,Morayshire 1783.
Name:Alexander Harp ch.6th Dec 1783
Occupation:Light Keeper working mainly Scotland & Isle of Man for Northern Lighthouse Board.
Cannot find a marriage but think his spouse may have been Margaret?
Children:Elizabeth,Helen,Jeane,Margaret (all born Scotland) Isabella,Ann Amelia,& James (all born Isle of Man)
Ann Amelia b.1826 is my 3x Gt Grandmother.
Does anyone know who Alexander Harp married & did he have any siblings. His parents were James Harp & Isbel Clinis
Any info would be of help
Regards bettyespana

Hi Betty
If Jean was born 1816 and Helen was b. 1819, Arbroath, Angus, then Alexander's wife was Margaret Guthrie.

Hello Gadget,
Thank you for these details. It looks as though it is the correct one.
I don't have exact dates for Helen & Jeans' births but on the 1841c Helen is 20 & Jean 21. Place of birth only states Scotland.
However I also have Elizabeth on the 1852 b.Fourdon Kincardin & she is aged 32
Kind Regards
Betty

Hi Betty
I can't find a baptism for Elizabeth but these are the ones for the other two:
11 March 1816, Arbroath - Jean 13 Jan 1819, Arbroath - Helen
I'll have another check for Elizabeth

She's down as Harper - I put an extra * in my search
Fordoun 1 Oct 1814 Elizabeth Harper - daughter of Alexr Harper and Margt G

PS - I think she might have told a wee porkie on the 1851!

When was the last child born? i can only find one Margaret Guthrie bpt. Kincardine:
11 September 1782, Arbuthnott, Kincardine to Robert Guthrie and Jean Christie.
Arbuthnott is the neighbouring parish to Fordoun.
No sign of any other siblings for Alexander at the moment.

Hello Gadget,
I have checked my notes & it was the 1841c which stated that Margaret was b.Scotland. However, checking further on my notes I find that this was not so.
Margaret was born 1822 Isle of Man this was acquired from Manx Genealogy, along with the births for James b 1820 Isabella b.1826 Ann Amelia b.1827.
So thanks to you I now have the details of the Harps up to date.
Your remark about Elizabeth telling porkies on the 1851c I agree with, although as her father was head of the family I tend to think he may be the culprit
Kind Regards
Betty
