I am back on my Buckthoughts after being sidetracked by the Praters.
I am looking for a Baptism for a Jane Bullock, please, possibly the daughter of Hugh Bullock.
In 1851, William buckthought, is living in Fraddon. (
Piece: HO107/1905 Place: Padstow -Cornwall Enumeration District: 4b
Civil Parish: St. Enoder Ecclesiastical Parish: -
Folio: 612 Page: 35 Schedule: 136
Address: Fraddon ).
Married to Jane aged 47, ( bc 1804 ), St Enoder.Working backwards, I find I have a William Buckthought, who married a Jane Chapple, in June Q 1843.
In 1841, William is in Fraddon again (
Piece: HO107/150/1 Place: Pydar -Cornwall Enumeration District: 6
Civil Parish: St. Enoder Ecclesiastical Parish: -
Folio: 12 Page: 17
Address: Fraddon ). Jane is 36, with widow, crossed out.
I found a Marriage for Jane Bullock, daughter of Hugh Bullock, to Richard Chappel, 5 10 1822, St Enoder.
Children, for this couple, on IGI St Enoder, Thomas 1823, Joseph 1824, Mary 1826, Richard 1829, Jane 1832, John 1835. ( which fits in with the 1841 details, but ages a bit out ).
Also a birth for a Jane Bullock, 22 8 1790, to Hugh and Grace Bullock.
The dates, for Jane do not match those on the census and I was wondering if you have some information on these families, please ?
Thank you

This certainly tells you who she was
Richard CHAPPEL miner = Jane BULLOCK Spinster by Banns 5 Oct 1822 St Enoder Richard Signed, Jane signed with her mark witnesses Hugh Bullock father of the above and Wm Rickard
MMM it does look like she lied about her age doesn't it
22 Aug 1790 Jane dau of Hugh and Grace BULLOCK was baptised
Banns read between Hugh BULLOCK and Grace BULLOCK both otp May 18, 25 and June 1 1788 St Enoder
Hugh BULLOCK otp = Grace BULLOCK otp by banns 16 Jun 1788 St Enoder Hugh signed Grace signed with her mark witnesses Robert Bullock and Ann Pearce
Looks like second marriage though Widow not stated
Banns read between Hugh BULLOCK Miner otp and Ann STEPHENS Widow otp 7, 14 and 21 Jan 1797 St Enoder
Hugh BULLOCK otp Miner = Ann STEPHENS widow by Banns 30 Jan 1797 St Enoder Hugh signed Ann signed with her mark witnesses Richd Poole and William Cock
The signature is the same
Grace wife of Hugh BULLOCK was buried 25 May 1795 St Enoder
All I can say is she must have really put her age down. I see no death of one Jane or baptism of another. I also kept my eye out for Jenifer as they can be interchangeable but there seems to be only the one daughter Jane

Thanks Kris.
I couldn't find another Jane on the St Enoder pages. I even e mailed one of the transcribers, who had transcribed lots of Bullocks, when I noticed the baptism date and her given ages on censuses. She didn't have a Jane born around the given census dates, to a Hugh and I was sure I had seen dau of Hugh, hence my post.
I think Jane died, before 1864, when a William Buckthought married an Elizabeth Jane, St Columb District.
On BMD., 3 Jane Buckthoughts recorded as dying, St Columb District, but no ages given.
Thanks Kris.

Hi junket
Jane BUCKTHOUGHT of Faddon was buried Jun 3 1862 aged 59 years
Banns were not read in St Enoder for William's second marriage
We do know she is Hugh's daughter by the marriage entry which was very handy indeed. There is no Jane or Jenifer baptised at the right time so either she dropped her age substantially and never looked back or the first Jane died and the second was not baptised.
I find it quite interesting that she had a child soon after marriage to William, yet no more. One would expect that if she was born 1790 this would have been nearing the end of her child bearing years, however if she was only early 30's one would expect her to be at her most fertile. Of course there may have been other factors preventing her from having further children but it did seem interesting to me.............Kris

Thanks Kris.
Like you, I did wonder about the age difference and if she 'covered it up' maybe. I don't thnik I found any siblings for Jane. I was back on the St Enoder pages, looking for the parentss of Hugh and Grace, yesterday, and looking in case I had missed a Jane or Jennifer, at the same time, but got called away and then got sidetracked by my 'new cousin coutesy of you' who sent me an e mail re Mary Jane Prout.
I will go back and search again, today. One thought is, could Hugh be interchangeable, with something else, as in Jane / Jennifer ?

thanks Kris, I will come back to the Bullocks, later.
So much going on here and I have another post which I want to put up, not relating, to these families directly, but associated, in a way, back further alomg the line.
