I am looking for any info on Richard Bennellick born 1751 in St Agnes, Cornwall. All I know about him is that he married Frances (no other info available), they moved to Crediton in Devon where they had a Son Called John b 1773, all the Crediton and Exeter Bennellicks come from Johns children, I have a lot of info on all of them but cannot find anything on Richard or Frances parents, siblings any other children they had etc.. I would be very grateful for any info at all and am more then willing to share what I know on the Devon end of the family. Thank you very much for any help

Thank you for that, if Richards Mother is not named does that mean she died before he was baptised or was that normal practice to only name the father?

It was a bit hit and miss with the registers that far back - sometimes the mother's name was mentioned but mostly it wasn't
I'll see if i can find a marriage around then for Richard, the father

There are also:
Dorothy Bennalick, bpt. St Agnes, 10 Feb 1738. Father Richd. William Bennalick, bpt. St Agnes, 15 July 1744. Father Richard, Mother Elisabeth Mary Bennalick, bpt. St Agnes, 19 Dec 1748. Father Richard, Mother Elis. Thomas Bennalick, bpt St Agnes , 20 Jan 1753. Father Richard, Mother Elis.
So Elisabeth is a possible.

Hi Jooles,
I also think his mother is Elizabeth
There is also a baptism of William to Richard and Frances 22 Jan 1776
It has been a lot of years since I looked at the St Agnes register but there are sections not in good order, perhaps a bigger problem in the marriages as it seems a lot of entries cannot be found. I noted things such as - no entries at all in 1771 and in 1772 part of the page must have been missing way back when Phillimore's Transcripts were done. In this case Wives names are there and none are named Frances. 1774 is also missing. I cannot see Richard the Father or Richard the son listed as married in Cornwall in any index.
Now the first baptism to the father is 1738 and I feel the missing marriage is probably explained in that there is gap in Phillimores from 1727 until BT's in 1736 It could be worth ordering the register in. Sometimes when you know what you are looking for you are able to find something others have missed, as you can work out enough letters yourself for it to make sense.
Bennallack is quite a common name in the area.
Sorry I couldn't be more help...............Kris
