I have a few missing census records for my ancestor George Henry Bennellick, I can't find him or his family in 1861 and 1871. He was born 17 Apr 1852 in Exeter. His father was William Bennellick born 1811 Crediton, Devon and his Mother was Sally Puddicombe born 1810 in Crediton and died in 1854 in Exeter. He married mary jane Carnall in 1878 in exeter.
I would be grateful for any help given.

What was his fathers occupation, and what did George Henry become
It might help to track him down

The only thing I have is George Henrys marriage certificate in 1878 that does not state his father as deceased and occupation as a shoemaker.

Still cannot see them in 1861 .... this could be the re-marriage of William after Sallys death in 1854 but there is no way we can be certain. As he had young children one would have expected him to marry sooner.
One for the records I think
William Bennellick - Emma Marles.... March q 1861 Crediton.... 5b - 711

I am totally baffled.... tried searching the 61 and 71 just using George Henry b 1852 Exeter also both his parents... nothing.
Have also tried umpteen various spellings of the surname.... I think this is where the problem lies nothing

I know, they just seem to of disappeared, but thank you so much for all your time looking. Maybe they'll turn up when I'm not looking. Maybe they were in a work house, but then you should still be able to find them on the census. I can't even find William with his new wife Mary if in fact he was the william who married her. I will have to order the marriage certificate for that one. Thanks again for your help

Taken another look around but what's odd is the only family member I can find in 1861 is James who is a servant so not with the family
Why not try a fresh post on this board giving this link to this thread and ask if anyone has access to the Devon 1861 other than Ancestry, perhaps they are just missing from there.
