GERMANY: can anyone help please! - MILDENSTEIN
« on: Wednesday 23 April 08 17:35 BST (UK) »

I am tracing my husbands Family tree, where it starts in Germany!
I have found quite a lot, but i am stuck on this!
I have
Jacob Mildenstein b.7th Oct 1780 Burg d.23 June 1849 Burg
He married
Therese Werner!!
I dont know any other details of this lady, someone in the family said she was from London, but i am not that convinced.
I dont know where they married. Jacob was a seafarer and travelled about quite abit.
They had 2 children one born on Cuba and the other christened in London. I do have an address for Jacob Mildenstein in Rotherhithe in 1818.
But i cannot find a thing on Therese. These 2 are my husbands GGG grandparents.
thanks if anyone can help or tell me the best place to get help. I have looked her up on ancestry and familysearch.org, but just going round and round  Undecided
thanks  Kiss

www.familysearch.org shows a possible marriage in 1816 in London, Jacob Mildenstein to Teresa Winifred Warner. Do you have a copy of this marriage?

Marriage Licence Allegations - Faculty Office database shows a marriage license dated 11 Jul 1816 for Jacob Mildenstein/Teresa W Warner.

How about Jacob's death record - do you have that? Does it say if he was widowed?

at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk in the catalogue there is a mention circa 1802 of a Mildenstein (as Captain of a ship) and also of a Gregorio Mildenstein from Cuba who became a UK citizen in 1866.

http://www.cubagenweb.org/ships/search.htm shows a Maria Mildensten arriving into Havana in 1850 from NY - related?

Hello Debby

"Jacob Mildenstein b.7th Oct 1780 Burg d.23 June 1849 Burg"
Do you know which "Burg" is meant (in which country)?
I think the full name of his wife is Theresa Winifred Werner.

Are you sure with the name "Werner" or could it also be "Warner"?
On the familysearch website there are many Winifred Warner in the UK.

The surname Werner is known in Germany, Austria, Bohemia, Switzerland,
but also in France (there also as Vernier) and in the Netherlands.

France see here http://www.geneanet.org/?lang=en
Netherlands see http://www.genlias.nl/en/search.jsp

Hi Burg is in the Fehmarn area of Germany, there is a castle there called Mildenstein Burg! Dont know of any connections to that yet!
Someone on the London forum put me straight on Theresas name being that and the winifred not maybe being her surname too! silly me hadnt thought it was her middle name  Roll Eyes
Have the Gregorio stuff already and his spouses and children, he was an emigration agent in Liverpool!

Hi Debby,

There is a Burg Mildenstein (Mildenstein Castle) in Leisnig, Saxony, but that's in south-east Germany
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Leisnig

Fehmarn is in North East Germany, on the Baltic.
A web search for mildenstein fehmarn or for mildenstein fehmarn burg shows quite a lot of Mildensteins still living there.
It also turns up several genealogy sites, too many to mention here.

One of them is a site for clergymen of Fehmarn ( 3 Mildensteins)
http://www.fehmarn-genealogy.com/the_clergymen_of_burg.htm
There is also a district of Burg mentioned on this site

Another one is
Genealogy Index for surnames beginning with M
http://www.genealogy-sh.de/selken/idx4d4.htm
with 19 Mildensteins of Fehmarn
including
3 Jacobs -
Mildenstein, Jacob (1591 Bojendorf/Fehmarn - 1642 Gammendorf/Fehmarn)
Mildenstein, Jacob (16 July 1654 Gammendorf/Fehmarn - 25 August 1728 Gammendorf/Fehmarn)
Mildenstein, Jacob (5 April 1681 Orth/Fehmarn - 18 MÄR 1714 Orth/Fehmarn)
Ooops, Bijendorf, Gammendorf, Orth, but none of them form Burg  Sad

Good luck,
Bob
