Please could anyone help me find Percie Arthur St Clair Aldridge's birth/census/parents please. The 1901 census says he was born in Ross, Scotland. He was born March 1859. He married in Lewes, Sussex in 1884 and his marriage certificate shows his father as Cecil (deceased). The first census I can find him on is 1891 in Sussex. He then emigrated to Canada in 1911.

This man could be a problem. FindMyPast lists Percy Stclair Aldridge born 1859 going from Southampton, England to Quebec, Canada in 1911.
1901 Census- Eastbourne, Sussex, England list him as Percy Aldridge age 42 born Ross, Scotland but... 1891 English Census lists him as Percie Arthur Aldridge born Adelaide, Australia!

Yes, I have seen the reference to Australia. I am assuming that it is a mistake somewhere in the transcription.
Family hearsay says that the family were from Scotland and then in the passenger list to Canada he is down as being 'Scotch' - from Scotland.

Hello
Search done on www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk for death of a Cecil Aldridge/Eldridridge/Aldrich from 1859 to 1884 - no sign of him. Cannot find the birth of a Percie/Percy Aldridge in Scotland between 1855 and 1865.
Can't find him on the IGI either. Perhaps worth posting on the Australia board?
Regards, Steve :O)
Amendment following message below: Tried searching for St Clair deaths in Scotland on SP, 1855 - 1890 - no joy re Cecil or similar sounding. Also tried the the IGI for marriage of Frances R. Grimsby - worldwide - n joy....

Thanks for that. They could also be down as St Clair Aldridge. I have heard it said that the eldest in the family took the name St Clair as well as Aldridge.
I will try Australia, I wondered whether he had been in Australia for some reason - hence not on earlier censuses. A bit confusing with the conflicting information and the double-barreled name to look for!
