I just found Iain's earlier thread at http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,297459.msg1798643.html#msg1798643 where Robert Porter married Ann Tossel/Topal in 1791. Ann's presumed first husband was born in 1766, so Robert may have been born closer to 1763, which would tie him in with the 1826 burial. But as far as I can see there's nothing that says that Robert who was buried in 1826 was born in Littleport.

Still can't work out the references to 1851 though

Perhaps, then, we should be looking somewhere other than Littleport for that birth/baptism for him...

David, Keith.

It is the Robert PORTER who died in 1826 aged 63.
keith.

i just had a look at my records again and robert PORTERS dob wasn't from the census.
the Littleport society gave me the info presumably counting back from age at death on his burial entry in 1826.

When i received the gedcom file from the littleport society i didn't check that the maths was correct, but the dob would be 1763, according to the littleport society he was buried in Littleport.
as you have stated with the linked thread he married an Ann Topal, the surname Topal does not exist.
I need really to have sight of the original marriage entry so i can see whether Topal could be Tossel/Tossal as i suspect.

I suppose Robert Porter must have been born elsewhere as Keith could not find the baptism even though i made it harder for him by giving him the wrong date................... ignore the 1851 census reference as i posted the entry from work and was using info from memory which proved incorrect.

thanks
