Hi Has anyone got an Isobel Cherry and a William Smith in their family? Their children were born in Larbert between 1798 and 1820 but I cannot find any info regarding their marriage date or who their parents were. I have tried lots of sites but have reached a dead end. I thought finding Cherrys would be simple Regards Cat

Hi Cat
I haven't found your Isobel but there is a James Cherry, bpt. Larbert, 24 October 1783. Parents were Alexander Cherry and Margaret Ure. It might be worth following this couple up. What were Isobel's children's names, in irth order. It might help with finding parents.
There are 18 Cherry baptisms showing for various parishes in Stirlingshire between 1765 and 1785.

Hi Cat,
I haven't found you're Isobel either but there are a few Cherrys buried in Larbert Old Parish Churchyard.
The couple which Gadget found, Alexander Cherry & Margaret Ure have a gravestone with the date 1788 on it. This date could mean a variety of things. It could mean the date they purchased the Lair/Plot, the date of death of one of their children or the date of death for one or other of them.
Going by the date of James Cherry's birth (again from Gadget's post), we see they were having children by 1873, so the 1788 might be one of their children's deaths.
Other 'Cherry' stones:
William Stivenson & wife Janet Cherry, date 1838
Thomas Cousland died 19.8.1848 aged 84 & wife Janet Cherry died 6.2.1843 aged 72
Jean Cherry, widow of John Frame died 19.07.1907 aged 80
John Cherry, died 7.7.1908 aged 83 (Brother of the above Jean - I think)
I don't know any relationships between any of the above Cherrys apart from the details on the MI's.
Anne

Aargh... an hour and a half on the IGI on the slowest line on the planet - checking all permutations possible. I'm working offshore. Aha, the light dawns - No mention of Scotlands people so far.
Off to SP. - check - Deaths Surname: Smith Forename: Isabel Other Surnames: Cherry Mothers Maiden Name: Ure
1 entry flags up. Range narrowed down to 1856. Put in Stirling and Larbert and it agreed. Tried to narrow the death range got as far as 70 - 80 and SP gave up on me so back I came. Anyone got a spare credit to verify - or have I been staring at the screen to long?
Thanks - Regards, Steve
If it's right, there was another sibling - Janet - also born in Larbert on 22 Feb 1789. I thought I'd another marked down - can't find it :O(

From those births, the Alexander and Margaret that I found look like good possibilities for Isobel's parents

And to add another 'Cherry' to the Larbert connection. A Margaret Alexander Cherry, born in Larbert to an Alexander Cherry and Margaret McKendrick. Appears to be the only child showing on the IGI for this couple. An 'extracted' entry :O)
Looks as though the death entry for Isabel Smith from www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk will have to be sought to clear up some queries

It was highly likely that it was a marriage by proclamation. Only Church of Scotland marriages show up consistently on SP or the IGI.

Hi everyone
Thank you, thank you Go away for weekend and you've all been busy.
I had already pencilled in Alexander Cherry and Margaret Ure as possible parents but had only found their children as James and Janet.
However will now follow the death notice of Isabel Smith-Cherry-Ure
Thanks again Cat
