If he was in the Air Forces, perhaps he was on planes who flew into the areas you have mentioned?

I would have thought the only way to get any info is to get his service record, by the sounds of things, would have thought he was some sort of ground crew, he might have serviced the planes or could have been one of them that protected the airfields. There is not a lot of info that you can get off the net, but good luck anyway
