Is he George Marshall of Henry George Marshall
« on: Thursday 24 April 08 20:59 BST (UK) »

Good evening Roots chatters

Today I got a marriage certificate in the post (on time I hasten to add) for the son of my g g g grandmother by her first marriage.  Letitia Kennett married George Marshall in December 1867 in Faversham Kent. I got the marriage certificate for their son Henry George today and he gives his fathers name as Henry George Marshall (deceased) George or Henry George was born 1797 in Faversham Kent and died 1874 in Faversham.

I am trying to find George or Henry George on the census, any census would help but no luck so far. His proffession on the marriage certificate is given as a Groom domestic. I can find Letitia and young Henry George and a daughter Charlotte who later died in the Work house on the 1871 census but no other trace of the family.

Any help with this elusive person would be appreciated.

Does anyone have access to the parish records to check his actual name out Huh Huh
Thanks in advance

Hi Panda

I'm confused here.  If you are looking for George or Henry George MARSHALL on any census ..................... how do you known he was born 1797 in Faversham and died 1874 in Faversham?

On Letitia's 1867 marriage certificate, what is the age and abode for George, does it give any name and occupaton for George MARSHALL's father and are the names of the witnesses any help?

Hi Panda

I've got the Faversham Baptisms up to 1801.
There's nothing for a George, Henry, George Henry or Henry George Marshall, in fact there's only one Marshall in the 1700s, all the rest are for the 1600s
Looks like they all upped & left for some reason!

Hi Ladies

I know you are not supposed to jump to conclusions but he was the only individual who fitted place and time. I am looking to visit the archives at Canterbury soon to try to clear this puzzle up once and for all. Will keep you posted on te results.
