Hi, I have a George Morgan born abt 1800 in Bristol, Gloucestershire and need to find who his parents were.
Info that i have so far is as follows:
Married to Sarah (could be Plumstead, Kent, England in 1822)
They had the following children, all born in Minster in Sheppey, Kent, England
Sarah Morgan F 1825 in Deptford, Kent William Morgan M 29 MAY 1828 in Deptford, Kent, England Henry Morgan M 1833 in Stoke Damerel, Devon, England Richard Morgan M 1836 in Kent Rebecca Morgan F 1837 in Deptford, Kent
I think Sarah's last name was cooper but not able to confirm this yet.
Hi Sue, thanks for the lookup - i suspect this is correct looking at George's childrens names (oddly enough - unbeknown to me i have carried on this naming tradition with a Daughter called Morgan and another Called Rebecca) :-)
May i ask where you sourced this as I couldn't find anything on latterdaysaints
I have a lot of handwritten transcriptions of Bristol Parishes which were sent to me by a lady I helped with various Glos research last year Here are are the rest of the baptisms that I found of children born to William & Rebecca:-
Mary Morgan - 3rd October 1802 at St Augustine Hannah Morgan - 17th February 1805 at St Augustine William Morgan - 11th January 1807 at St Augustine Rebecca Morgan - 1st October 1809 at St Augustine
Sorry, I`ve been looking to see if I can find a marriage. There`s no mention of Rebecca`s maiden name in the baptism listings and this is the best I can come up with for a marriage
William Morgan (of this parish) & Rebecca Gage (of this parish) 20th February 1797 at Clifton, Bristol
I looked at marriages for the only two Rebecca Hicks listed but neither married a William Morgan, unless of course they married elsewhere
I would imagine that at least some of the resources I have might be available by now as I have no idea of how old they are. I suggest you try www.bafhs.org.uk and see what they have I`m more than happy to do look-ups for you if you have no luck with bafhs
You did not say where your George Morgan info. came from but the use of, "abt" tells me it was from a submitted entry in the IGI so you must be wary of it.
The LDS have various formulae for estimating births and your G.M's birth location and date may have been guessed from census info. rather than being found in church records. The important thing to the LDS is that he lived - where and when are of no real importance.
You will find in the LDS library catalogue that the LDS has filmed the Bishop's transcripts of St Augustine the Less for the years 1663 to 1868 and the baptism you've been given should be in Items 3 - 4 of film 1595530.
If you can get to an LDS church FHC you will be able to hire and search it or any of the millions of LDS films. Regarding missing years being quoted, I speak from experience of searching 44 films of church records.
