I think your interpretation is correct - that it's shorthand and alternate / phonetic spelling for Frankfurt am Main.

1. Wantangelach
2. Waltangelbach (=Waldangelbach)

The image quality is bad - any advice please???

Try putting a sheet of black paper or card on top when you scan. It stops writing on the other side showing through.
