The only possibility I can see is this one in 1861, but Janes birth is given as about 1857.

Ann  25    daughter

Celia   46    wife

George  4 months  Grandson

Jane  4  grandaughter

Will  60    Head

William    16    son

They were in Sittingbourne

Thanks for looking. Unfortunately I dont think it`s her as her

father was George. However I think William Hubbard may be

brother of George.

The only HUBBARDS I can see in Upchurch in 1861 are James & Jemima and a Richard. The last page of district 33, covering Otterham Quay, is damaged.  I wonder if there were more pages that have not survived. Huh  It does not say 'the end of district 33'

Hi Victoria,

It says that they were the Grandchildren on the image that I found, not children. It doesn't state who their parents are.  I very much doubt that 16 year old William was their father, but neither do I think that the Ann listed with them was their mother as seen as she is daughter and not daughter in law, and they all  have the name Hubbard.

If we post the full details of the 1861 census in Sittingbourne with birthplaces etc., it might be easier to look at the family as a whole Wink

1861

Malcomb Place, Sittingbourne, Kent

Will. HUBBARD head mar 60 housekeeper b.Whichling (Wychling) Kent
Celia wife 46 b.Hucking Kent
Ann dau mar 25 b.Eastchurch
William son unm 16 b.Teynham
Jane grandau 4 b.Sittingbourne
George grandson 4m b.Sittingbourne

RG9/529 folio 182 page 34
...................................

1871

24 Malcoomb Place, Sittingbourne, Kent

Charles KIMMINS head mar 29 brickfield lab b.Sudbury Essex
Ann wife 34 b.Minster (Isle of Sheppey)
Jane WRIGHT dau in law 13 Milton
George PLAYER son in law 10 b.Sittingbourne
Lizzie dau in law 7 b.Sittingbourne
Annie dau in law 5 b.Sittingbourne
Ruth dau in law 3 b.Sittingbourne
Charles KIMMINS son 1 b.Sittingbourne
William HUBBARD father in law mar 73 brickfield lab b.Egerton Kent

RG10/984 folio 22 page 36
............................

Ann Elizabeth WRIGHT possibly married William PLAYER 1860 Milton RD
Ann PLAYER possibly married Charles KIMMINS 1868 Milton RD

Thus, I think Victoria is correct in that this isn't the family she is looking for and that Bearkat's explanation is more likely ie. there is some of the 1861 census for Upchurch missing or that they were away from home on their barge at the time the enumerator called.

I couldn't see George & Suszell in 1851 either Undecided

Hi Jen, thank you for all your help. The records were convincing but going by the places of birth I knew they were not my Hubbard family. It looks as though there are pages missing from 1861 census or as Casalguidi says they were on their boats on night enumerator called.

Thanks to everyone who helped.

Hi Victoria

Although it's not what you asked for, I found this one which looks like one of yours (just in case you don't have it)  ................

1851

6 Boytons Place, St George Camberwell, Surrey

Thomas HUBBARD head mar 30 bargeman b.Newington (Surrey crossed out and replaced with Kent)
Amelia wife 28 b.Walworth Surrey
George son 9 b.Upchurch Kent
Hannah dau 7 b.Upchurch
Thomas W S son 2 b.Walworth Surrey
Amelia dau 6m b.Walworth Surrey

HO107/1582 folio? page?
.............................

It looks like at least some of them are in the Milton (nr Sittingbourne) Union Workhouse later on .............

1861 - Milton Union Workhouse

Hannah HUBBARD 75 15 b.Upchurch
Thomas 12 b.Camberwell Surrey
Amelia 10 b.Camberwell Surrey
Caroline 8 b.Camberwell Surrey
Susan 7 b.Camberwell Surrey

(no relationships given but they appear in that order)

RG9/528 folio 134 page 30

Thanks for that, I did not have those records.

Thomas c1821 was the brother of Richard Hubbard c1814,
Richard was my great great grandfather.

The Hannah in the Milton Workhouse Cry

Could be Hannah Hubbard who was baptised 01/09/1793 Hartlip.
Kent. She had a brother Richard baptised 18/12/1786 same parish This Richard was the father of Richard c1814.

The workhouse did not get all ages right I suppose.
I cant understand why this Hubbard family ended up in the workhouse as by all accounts they were not short of a few bob.
Thinking about that now it was early days and they might not have been that well off then.

Thanks for your help.

Hi Victoria

That Hannah HUBBARD in the Milton Union Workhouse 1861 was 15 (not 75) - I've changed my mind now that I've looked more closely Wink

She was probably the dau of Thomas & Amelia then hence all the children together.  Sorry for any confusion Embarrassed

Hi Casalguidi,

You are right,

Hannah ( from my notes ) born 1844 was the daughter of Thomas and his first wife Ann Belchamber, they also had a son George born 1842.
Then Thomas married Amelia Morris and their children were.
Thomas 1849 Amelia 1850 Caroline 1853 Suzell 1854
Just realised George Hubbard married Suzell Morris
They may have been sisters.
