Hi, Everyone, I was wondering whether anyone with access to the St Mary's Hitchin parish records could do me a quick look-up for a marriage that took place there on 25th April (happy anniversary!) 1835 between a George IZZARD and Charlotte MORLEY. Would be very interested to discover if either is stated to be a widow/er, or where Charlotte's place of origin might have been... Very best wishes, keith

Thanks very much for that, Medhist, If I can get details of that marriage, the situation would become a lot clearer. I'm wondering whether she was possibly widowed, though, if her birthdate is correct, then she was still a young woman when she married in 1835... keith

Thanks very much for all this, Medhist and Keith, And I hadn't thought of the possibility of discovering Charlotte's husband/partner's name from the wedding certificate of her daughter... It appears that a Charlotte IZZARD subsequently dies in Sept. quarter 1861... keith

...and Medhist and Keith, Earlier today I initiated this search for Charlotte MORLEY's origins on the Emigrants boards. Not sure if this is the link, but here goes: www.rootschat/forum/index.php?topic=300948.new#new Jorose has followed Mathilda through the Censuses (now why didn't I think of that) and in the 1901 it says that she was "Born at sea on the way from India", or words to that effect. Now, where would this mean that her birth would have been registered, and would the vessel have been on its way to Ireland, hence Ireland being given as a birthplace... keith p.s. The link doesn't seem to work, so I've obviously mucked things up - can anyone with a bit more nous than me help me out...?

http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,300948.0.html using cut and paste is the link to your other thread Keith
If no-one is going into Hertford who could check the Hitchin register there's always the option of ordering the microfilm from the LDS Family History Centre in Cambridge

David, Thanks so much for quietly putting me right...Looks like I'll have to get down to my local LDS and order that microfilm next week. Lovely morning here in sunny Cambridge, at last. Hope things are looking good down there in the South of France too... keith

RichardK, That's absolutely brilliant - thanks so much for turning that entry up for me! So, the story of Charlotte gets even more interesting, as she was presumably widowed somewhere else in the world, possibly India, possibly Ireland. And it does look as though George was widowed very early in his young life too, but this time in Hitchin itself. See the link above to the other thread I started on the Emigrants Board, and the accurate suggestions made there... Must try and look into Charlotte's earlier life in India, if that is going to be at all possible, keith

Peter, Thank you so much for looking this up for me! Every time something new turns up like this on Charlotte (and Matilda), I have to think it all through again. So it looks as though that MORLEY/MACNEELANCE 1834 marriage in India is indeed a red herring. Looks as though I'm going to need to look now for a Marriage between a Charlotte and a John MORLEY sometime in the early 1830's, but where in the world, with Mathilda either born in Ireland, or on board a ship, I'm not at all sure... keith
