Where did you find the information regarding birth/marriage dates? Family Bible, IGI, etc. ?

It is possible that James left a Will; this might hold clues as to brothers/sisters. If James was in the Royal Navy you might be able to find his records, which might have useful information regarding his family.
Are you aware of any children born to the couple?
Have you found James & Elizabeth on 1841 census?
Have you found the death of James?
Sorry it's all questions but there might be a clue somewhere!

This may be completely the wrong track .... but on the IGI I have found
Elizabeth Matilda DE LA ROCHE b. 1813 Plymouth, d. 1854 St Helier.
It seems to imply she was married twice:
James Henry French in 1824 (i.e. she'd have been 11 !) Pierre la Roche ... no date given
Its a right muddle ... Pierre de la Roche also seems to have been her father !
Then there's this: James William French, b. 1824, d. 1896, Lamplough, Victoria. His parents are given as: Father: James Henry FRENCH Mother: Elizabeth Matilda DE LA ROCHE His wife is given as: Ann Spence, b.1825, Gibraltar, d.1901, Brighton East, Victoria. marriage: 23 Jun 1845, St. Helier , Jersey, Channel Islands.
Sort that lot out ! I wonder if your 'Abreo' surname is wrong ? The rest of the details fit, in a way ...
