My Aunt Maud was a nanny to the children of a member of the Rockefeller family in the 1920's. I have a photo of John Davison Rockefeller with my Aunt Maud as they walked in a garden, with another lady alongside them. There is another photo with JDR on a golf course and on the back it says "JDR being introduced to the Treglone family" and that is the family I am tracing. So far there has been no result. They are not relatives of mine but I have been so curious about this for the past year and would love to find out who they were. I have written and sent copies of the photos to the Rockefeller Archives in America and they do not know anything about the Treglone family. The name is clearly written. I also have a photo of a very large white house taken from the grounds and the RA in America do not know of that either. If anyone can advise me where else I can search then please let me know. What have you found so far ? have you found the family in any census ? ... do you know any first names or dates of birth or any other details at all ?
Treglone is a Cornish name .... and miners came from Cornwall ... maybe your family ended up being "gold miners" .... maybe they became wealthy and became friends or business associates with Rockefeller !!
I did find this about a Elizabeth Maude Treglone maybe Rockefeller was interested in Journalism who knows !! .... your question is pretty broad maybe we can narrow it down a little ... and start with what you know already !!
Description: 1 file folder, Rare Print File Notes: A thesis entitled "The History of Journalism in Nevada," by Elizabeth M. Treglone, 1902. Subjects: Dissertations, Academic -- Nevada. University of Nevada -- Dissertations Journalism -- Nevada.
I am not of that name, Treglone. My Aunt Maud Green, who never married, was also called Peggy. She was a nanny to the children of one of the Rockefellers. JDR himself was an old man by then, but his son had children and they would have been of nannying age. Aunt maud travelled on The White Star Line on a ship called SS Majestic, and I do not know the year of her journey. She was born in 1893.
I have not looked on any American censuses. I should have, I know, but then which are the best ways? Ancestry? Any of the others? Can I ask for a look up from one of the RootsChatters for such a long shot as this?
I have discovered that there are a lot of Treglone families in Cornwall! Looking on Google anyway! And no, I do not know anything at all about this family. It would be good just to find them in America and to have some kind of connection with the big man, JDR.
Maybe there are items of news in print somewhere, especially about on a golf course. I have been told that JDR played golf in Florida where he took his holidays.
That is all I have found out. Sorry to be so bland, but well, when I get the photos ready I can send them to you.
I hope that someone will be able to advise me on where to go from here in my searches. It is only curiosity, I know, and not to do with finding my family, but I just keep thinking about it and asking on here is the best thing I have done. Thank you for your reply.
