Asylums
« on: Monday 28 April 08 18:43 BST (UK) »

I would appreciate any help in searching for information about 'The Metropolitan District Asylum for Imbeciles'. A relative was sent there and is liste on the 1881 census (Alfred Platt). He was a brush maker and is given as being a patient and a Lunatic on the census.

The civil parish for the asylum was Caterham and the registration district if Godstone.

Any help would be gratefully recieved.

It's probably the Caterham Asylum:

The Metropolitan District Asylum for Imbeciles was at Caterham.

Now known as the Caterham Dene Mental Hospital, Church Road, Caterham CR3 5RA.

Records are scattered between Surrey History Centre, the Wellcome Library and LMA.  Clinical or other patients' records aren't mentioned.
