Hi there,
I am looking for a marriage of William Aitken to Henrietta Petrie on 23 August 1820. On the 1841 census, it showed William Aitken as being 45, making him born in 1796. I am looking for his parents names.
If I take into account that the ages were rounded, then there are two William Aitken's born in 1801 in Falkirk, with 2 sets of parents. If I take it as him being born in 1796, then there is one set of parents, being Thomas and Jean.
Now, William's 2 sons were called Thomas Hamilton Aitken and Thomas Alexander Aitken.
I am a bit confused. Can anyone help me out here?

1821 Thomas Hamilton
1822 - Margaret Douglas
1824 - Agnes
1827 Helen Scrimgeour
1830 - Thomas

not sure when he died. but could not find on 1851 census.
Would really appreciate anything you can find on his parents.

Given the rounding (45-49) - he could have been born 1792 (post-June 1791). I have a bpt. on SP with parents that fit the naming of the children reasonably well:
29th January 1792 - Parents - Thomas Aitken and Margaret Douglas. Bpt. Falkirk

Thomas - 20 Dec 1789
William -29 Jan 1792
James - 1 Jun 1794
Margaret - 4 Sept 1796
Ann - 3 Feb 1799

i saw just now on igi that there is a william born 1796 with parents thomas and jean. will have to look into both.

I think that the one that I found is most likely. If he was 45 on the 1841 he would have been born June 1791 to May 1796 (census in June in 1841) and the first daughter was called Margaret Douglas. First son was Thomas. They seemed not to have a Jean.
