SEPHERY

(I don't recognise this name, but I find one married to a Phillip FREEMAN b Abt. 1595)
Born Abt. 1599 Olney, Buckinghamshire, England Burial: 14 Sep 1640 Olney, Buckinghamshire, England
Freeman is the name I'm chasing, but Sephery sounds interesting. I did wonder where the name might have begun.
Are there any Sepherys around?
Thanks,
James.

I took up your challenge, and found Sephar in biblical names as book, scribe. Perhaps the extra y (e) denoted female?
Regards Jenny

Hi Jenny,
Challenge eh? I guess so. I've also heard Iranian suggested, thought about a 'corruption' of Jeffrey and am presently looking at Zephyr, though am not yet meeting any SEPHERYS. Maybe they are now extinct?
James.

James,
Using a 1st name only search brought up 6 hits in the US census only.
(1) 1860 (2) 1880 (2) 1900 (1) 1910
(2) were b. in Germany and could be the same person (maiden name/married name w/ the birth year off )
Tried to do the same type of search in the UK BMD and Census -- the search engine doesn't seem to work well that way....but no hits.
Guessing this is why no one is answering your call
There also seems to be a computer virus in Middle Eastern systems carrying that name. ...stemming from the "corruption" meaning, I'm guessing ??

Lissa, thanks. It would seem the name is now just history and only connected descendants remain, probably some/most unaware of the surname in their past
I'm still pondering how a surname like that could find its way to England so comparitively early. A remnant from the Crusades is all I can come up with.
My luck to get 'entangled' with a virus eh?
James.

Carmela,
Thanks for that. If it is Jeph... and being female, I guess it has to be a surname, or my search would begin again I fear.
"What's in a name?" - £64,000 question huh?
Thanks again,
James.

James, There are a few male persons on line using "Sepherial" as their name --- but I'm not going to their websites to find out more --- sorry, but on your own there!
Found Sephera and someone on-line researching it in the feminine.
And either a writer or their character using Sephera.
Also, Sepherial seems to be related to the Kabala and the study of numbers.
Since found as a female given names (and not a surnames) maybe derived from Sephora/Tzipporah/Zipporah, a wife of Moses???

Lissa, we may never know, but, like you. I won't go near some of those sites. Heck, have enough trouble without that stuff.
Thanks,
James.

Tazzie,
Most kind of you, but please don't use too much valuable time just on this. I imagine its going to be another case of "arrived on Earth fully clothed etc".
Extra-terrestrial perhaps?
James.
