Death in 1849 in Brent Pelham
« on: Saturday 26 April 08 12:02 BST (UK) »

I have an ancestor Thomas Brett who lived in Brent Pelham and died as a result of an accident while working in a gravel pit in 1849. His death wasn’t recorded until May 1850. Might this have been because there had to be an inquest? If so, where there newspapers in those days which might have reported it?

Many thanks

Hi Lyndsey,

The Hertfordshire Burial Index records the burial of a Thomas BRETT age 43 on 08Dec1849 at St.Mary the Virgin Church, Brent Pelham.
Not quite what you are after but maybe of interest.

Thanks Peter for that. I've seen the parish registers at Brent Pelham church and it was the entry for Thomas' death which just said 'was killed' that led me to apply for his death certificate. I'm still none the wiser as to what exactly happened and am hoping that there might be more information in a newspaper/inquest report.

Regards

Lyndsey
