Hit a Brickwall? Has Anybody Ever Tried the "Hereafter"?
« on: Saturday 26 April 08 12:41 BST (UK) »

Just a thought. Having hit so many "brick walls", I was wondering if anyone has ever tried to "contact" an ancestor by trying the "Hereafter"?

I know there are a lot of fakes out there, but some people do appear to be able contact people in the "Hereafter". If one could get a few hints from an ancestor, it would

a) help a lot with family research

b) change the mind of one more sceptic - me!  Undecided

I'm thoroughly stuck, but personally wouldn't go that dirction - reckon it would bring more trouble than good + it's hardly firm evidence!

I've often thought I'd like to.  I think it would be interesting.  I've gone for fun in the past with friends and some things they were right on that happened.

My luck though, they would all keep quite LOL

Hi Les,

Yes, little old ex-sceptic me uses that method  Roll Eyes

I wouldn't have used this method except a first visit gave me information on my family that I didn't know but after speaking with aunts and older cousins on my maternal and paternal side they had knowledge of ALL 4 pages of info the medium gave me... "John playing a big drum said hello" (why did I never know grandad played drum 1911 in Salvation army!!!). ... "Martha, lived in little back to back house, Hull, made up own recipes" (83 yr old aunt reminisced about her Aunt Martha).  This is a description I recognised straight away... "little old lady wearing hairnet, deaf aid in both ears, throwing down a doormat and saying 'don't be a doormat"  Grin  .. In my defence I'd say to my grandmother, "Who can resist helping out your own children"  Roll Eyes

I get between 2 and 4, A4 pages (written both sides) of short notes containing names, clues to occupation, origins. "Ben, cheerful fellow ruddy cheeks, sandy hair wearing apron and galoshes, holding up measuring jug saying - boy must work harder".  (later found on my maternal line as Benjamin Munford landlord of Norfolk pubs - see website of Norfolk public houses @ the time my uni son was part-time pub worker).   After the first medium I visited retired I am now having to work out how this new medium gives me information.  I never speak but take notes of what she 'sees' and go home to work out if anything is relevant to the direct line I'm currently working on.   When the first medium uttered the name "Conrad, gives quiet greetings",  I could scarcely breath 'cos I was so excited. She went on to say "Kings Lynn, The Wash".  She then had trouble 'hearing' the next word... "Can you ask 'him' to spell it? I enquired.  "It wouldn't do any good" she said... "he's a foreigner and I can scarcely understand a word he's saying".   The reason for my excitement?  A Conrad (a German naval draft dodger) had brought my young gt.grandfather b1854 over to Yorkshire, England 1860's but I'd found no record of their entry and now I think they probably came on a boat via Kings Lynn, Norfolk, which apparently was a busy port in those days.  I'd found Conrad & my young ancestor on the 1871 census. After introducing himself via the medium - I then found his surname was the clue to the maternal German line, which I've since taken back to the 1700's.

I've found these mediums quite often take me back farther in time than I'm currently researching, especially this 2nd one.  For instance, I made this note :  "Eric, wearing a blue army uniform (description) froze to death Russia".   A quick google showed me it was an early German uniform.  I then found 18th century death details of an "Erich" who had one of the German surnames I am researching on this "fallen soldiers" website but how he is related to me I have no idea because I'm not that far back with research on my paternal German line.   Is he a distant cousin or a direct bloodline? Maybe I'll find out one day:  http://www.denkmalprojekt.org/en_search.htm

I pointed out to this 2nd medium that she appeared to be giving me information from early centuries I hadn't begun to research, so she apologised after she reported 'seeing'   "Dawson" .... pause as she peered into space... and then pondered "Why did he commit suicide?" - "Oh no, that's too early, that's in the 1500's".  Shocked

Hope you enjoyed reading about these 'coincidences'  Grin

P.S. I went straight to my photo album & put up this 1921 pic of grandfather on my profile after this brief clue which was verified by my cousin.... "man surrounded by black said hello - cant see his name - he visited little bookshop in Whitby".  Everyone's got old dark photographs but not everyone's grandpa visited his bookshop-owner pal in Whitby whenever he travelled up there to inspect boilers. My cousin has asked me to ask him where has the jet jewellery gone that he brought back for grandmother  Huh

Hmm...........interesting Rena. I just thought if one could just get a hint that could be followed up, then from that hint, positve evidence was found, well....................

The main reason I started this topic, was that my mother-in-law has recently died. I was asked to burn a disk from a recent photo of her that had been emailed to me, which I did. After I confirmed that the disk worked (by viewing the photo on the screen), I pressed the exit button. Instead of exiting from the photo, the photo darkened, and the computer froze with that darkened photo remaining on the screen. I waited a couple of minutes, however, the darkened photo still remained, so I had to re-boot the computer!

No, that's not the end of it. That photo was originally emailed to me at 9.30pm on Thursday night. At 9pm on Friday, that same email arrived again indicating that it had been emailed at 9.30pm Thursday. I deleted it. At 9.45pm that same Friday night the same email arrived again indicating it had been emailed at 9.30pm Thursday night.

I contacted the original sender, and I was informed that it had only been sent once at 9.30pm on the Thursday night, his computer not being switched on Friday night Shocked

I got on well with my mother-in-law, and had just finished her family tree before she passed away. Was she trying to tell me there's more information to be found somewhere else other than computers, libraries, BMD Registries,..................etc

hmm, spooky - not something that normally happens - the earth moves in mysterious ways eh ?  Shocked  How many people reading this will know of somebody who's said ... "I just had a feeling I should phone, or, I should look thro my folder again, etc. ...." why did they have a 'feeling', what's the explanation?   Most interesting of all is, (knowing that there are sceptics in this world) why did you start this thread and did somebody/something know I would answer to give you food for thought?   oo-er   Grin

For brickwalls you have to have an open mind and think laterally.  My father was a Scot with roots in Glasgow & Midlothian so when I got told; "They're all singing 'the Lights of Old Aberdeen'" I thought my father's line would lead there,  but with regards to religion this was something new .... "a lady making the sign of a Catholic cross".  A Catholic?

I'd been stuck on my late OH's Welsh baptist line living in Newcastle, England with wife Williamina born in "Scotland".  I surfed light/lamp and found an auction website with reference to 1800's Aberdeen lampmakers - Bingo, after a bit more ferreting found she was baptised a Catholic in Aberdeen, the oldern part of Aberdeen city of "Old Machar" and her family made Lamps (lights).

This 2nd medium doesn't see and hear. On my first visit she just saw what was being shown to her by "Albert" ...   I queried how come Albert knows anything about other lines  - she said "he's the only one that I can communicate with" and they're telling him what to show me.   As long as there are no crossed wires in the re-telling I'm happy  Wink

Cheers,

I'm not realy a believer I went to see a couple of mediums after both my parents died. Some stuff was accurate other stuff way out.
A few weeks ago I had contact with a relation on my husbands side who is tracing the same line as they have the same g g grandparents.
I told her I was visiting the church yard where I thought thay were buried and if I could find the grave I would take a photo.
I walked into the cemetary and took a deep breath as I thought I would be searching for hours.
I walked straight up to a headstone which was right in the middle of the church yard. It was first one I even botherd to look at and it was the g g granparents. As my husbands relation, said I think someone was guiding me that day.

Yes, I can relate to "other stuff way out".....  I started genealogy after the first visit solely because of learning about an unknown (to me) relative who'd been killed in action WWI.   "His pals called him Harry but he preferred his real name Henry..he's wearing a soldier's uniform (more information)... "

After months of research I found Henry and put my little tree on GR and asked the medium if she could help me with my ancestors.   So when I came away from that 2nd visit I had a clutch of notes and a blank look on my face after only recognising a few names such as "Eva is giving you a rosette" (obviously I'm a winner in her eyes :-)  I hadn't come across any other surnames and what on earth did "off to Cotswolds" mean?   Not long afterwards I was approached via GR to which I responded and the words on her next email had me rushing to my notes...Talk about eyes on organ stops!... "Will speak when I come back, am off to the Cotswolds to paint".    I took a chance on looking stupid and listed all the names I hadn't recognised on the medium's list.... yes Mary was mother, yes to Harvey, yes Somerville, yes to the distillery, Sunderland, etc., etc...  Shocked

Guess who doesn't care about looking stupid anymore Grin

Oooh this is spooky  Undecided I have often thought about going to see a medium but never got round to it. How do you know where to look for one and if they are any good or not?

I never believed in 'fortune tellers' except for a bit of fun; it was my daughter wanting to have contact with her father who then made an appointment for me....   We met for lunch one day;  "I know you don't believe in this sort of thing mum but I've made an appointment for you...".  When I read her notes, I slightly changed my mind: .. .... "the lady with the waterfall, he's worried about the door with the left hand handle".   The handle on my old doubleglazed front door was on the left and unknown to dau latterly everytime I closed the door I had to tighten the screws on the plate with a screwdriver and again unknown to dau. the recently maintained gutters had overflown into an unused bedroom.

My daughter and her friends passed names by word of mouth - their generation know of some not very good ones and some 'well recommended' ones in their area.   Maybe if you repeat my stories in your circle, somebody might come back to you with news of a recommended clairvoyant/medium.  The first thing said by the two that I visited was "please don't talk as I don't want you to go away thinking you've given me the information".

Regards,
Rena

I think I'd be quite disturbed too by unexplained episodes, noises, (and I've heard of people's hands wanting to draw) etc., but for unwanted visitors my dau and her pals seem to think a firm "leave me alone and go to the light" is the answer - but I wouldn't know if that works.

I feel that if an unexplainable 'something' wants to visit it's probably family who love me, don't wish harm and possibly would let me know by an aroma/perfume they were once recognised by.

Re: Hit a Brickwall? Has Anybody Ever Tried the "Hereafter"?
« Reply #13 on: Sunday 27 April 08 21:56 BST (UK) »

I went with my Mum to a medium, after my father died, and the results were certainly very positive. I remember thinking that my Dad would have got some answers to the mysteries in our tree if he could meet up with the right people! We also went to see Colin Fry ~ no messages for us.

But this is something that did happen to me:

I went to the area where my Dad's family came from ~ near the Cotswolds ~  for a mini break with my kids and parents. (Husband had to work.) I particularly wanted to visit a hamlet that Dad had said his grandmother and her sister used to mention.

Mum babysat, while Dad & I explored. After visiting a few local villages, we arrived. There were only a few houses, on a hill where there was a bend in the road. Dad decided to stay in the car and I walked up and round ~ to the end of the hamlet.

I tend to feel a 'vibe' when I visit historic places ~ it may just be my own imagination ~ but this time, I felt nothing. This was a part of my family history and I just felt blank.

I looked back down the sloping, turning lane & tried to imagine it as it had been in my gt grandmother's day. I said  ~ not sure if aloud or not ~ 'Auntie Alice and Auntie Rose must have walked down this road'. I then heard a voice say: 'There's no must have about it; they did.'  I certainly felt something then!

I was amazed and walked back down the hill and around the corner to my Dad in the car. I got in, about to tell him, but not thinking that he'd believe me, as he was a real skeptic, when he said: 'They spoke to you, didn't they?'

I couldn't believe it! I asked him why he'd said it, but he didn't know. He just looked a bit confused, and smiled.
