Was he born in Ireland 1826,if so he might have married an Ann Gibson..There is a John mcAllister age 25 living with his in-laws in Whitehaven... 1851 census..

There is a John mcAllister age 25 living with his in-laws in Whitehaven... 1851 census..

But his inlaws are called TOWNSLEY!

He may be the son of James and Bridget McALLISTER who I may be descended from.  I think they crossed from Ireland in the late 1830s while others came a generation earlier.

There were so many McALLISTERs in Whitehaven - seven died in the Wellington Pit disaster in 1910 and two more in William Pit in 1947.  Cry
