Selling is a village about 4 miles south-east of Faversham.

It's about 6/7 miles from Chartham.

Thank You,

The 1851 census states Williams` wife Elizabeth ( nee Wells ) was born in Selling.

I can only see one baptism for Elizabeth WELLS in Selling but it's in 1731 so a bit too early. Sad

Hi Victoria,
Have pm'd you ref Barges on other post.
Back in the middle ages Woodreeves were appointed to control the taking of timber from the forests thst were common property. By the time your ancester was one the job in kent was mainly to organise the coppicing industry . That was the harvesting of new grown wood on a regular basis which is still done today in Kent. The position of Woodreeve dissapeared in the late 1800,s as far as I am aware probably as most woodland was in private ownership by then.
                                                         Regards Rog.

Thanks Rog, have replied to your pm. The information re: woodreeve is interesting never heard of it before.

Thanks Bearkat for looking for Elizabeth in Selling. I notice you have Holbeck from Middlesbrough in your profile. Any relation to William Colbeck from Middlesbrough who settled in Liverpool.
