How can I learn more about Yarrow in the late 1700's and early 1800's? For example, have the cemetary markers been documented some where? I'm pursuing a connection back to Catslacknowe and the 1800 family of William Scott and Isabell Bell. If anyone can help me to learn more about them i'd truly appreciate it.

Hello,
The Scottish Borders Council website (found here) implies there are pre-1855 monumental inscriptions available. Genuki (here) gives a list of surnames found in the old Yarrow graveyard.
I notice you are in Victoria, BC. I was there last summer - what a wonderful place.

I will check the sources you identified.
and, yes we love Victoria. But we visited the borders (too long ago) and loved them ...however the winters scare us as we Victorian's are unaccustomed to snow. We'll be back soon though.

thanks so much for replying. i was hoping that a marker inscription might be of, or reference, William Scott and his wife Isabell (Bell). And since you were kind enough to mention Ashkirk..... i'm also looking for the marker of John and Helen Scott which might be in Ashirk?

At Ashkirk you've found the marker of my great-great grandfather....the William Scott who died at Dimpleknowe in 1848 at age 48. I knew of this marker and it helped me put together a good number of records related to his family.
his wife was a Mary Scott who parents were the John and Helen Scott i had mentioned. i was hoping to learn more about them by finding thier marker.
after marrying, William and Mary Scott lived thier lives out at Ashkirk and raised thier family of 5 boys there. all the branches have moved on now though so hard to track.
my real stumbling block is that i can't seem to figure out how to find anything about the parents of William Scott of Dimpleknowe. a search on Scotlandspeople mentioned Catslack so i was grasping at straws.

A favour please. Can you please have a look and see if there are MI's for Ashkirk for a William Mitchell - a joiner and Margaret Richardson his wife. There may also be the name of a female child Margaret Mitchell b. 03 Mar 1806, Ashkirk. The reason she may be on is that the couple had another Margaret born 1808 who died in the parish of Stow in 1885.
