Hi,
I am doing a one name study of the Rossiter family and am looking for information please about the parents, grandparents and siblings of John Rossiter who was baptised on March 3rd 1839 at St Philip & Jacob , Bristol.
Parents are believed to be Thomas Rossiter and his wife Mary ( maiden name unknown).
Any information would be greatly appreciated please. TIA.
Best wishes

Hello rcuser
Not much luck matching here ; there is a John Rossiter b. 1839 Bristol on both censuses, but his parents are John and Mary.
On the 1841 there is a John b. 1834 with Thomas and Mary as the oldies in the family, but in 1851 that John's parents are John and Mary.
There doesn't appear to be a john b. 1839 with father Thomas.
Do you want the 1839 with father John ?

Hi alli,
Thanks for your post. I have both these families in my database.
Ironically I cannot find my original source of information for the John I posted.
However, I did find this: http://www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/Census/household_record.asp?HOUSEHOLD_CODE=1881BR_5464667&HOUSEHOLD_SUB=1&frompage=99
I also found a family of children for Thomas & Mary with a John born 1834. I had hoped he was a late baptism but unfortunately the year of birth was the year of baptism.
I'll keep looking for my original John and see what else I can find.
Best wishes

Hi Mum44,
Unfortunately, my database is just a basic gedcom file with no real search facilities other than an alphabetical list of names with dates of birth and/or death at the end.I have over 20,000 entries.
I've tried to make it easier by incorporating the birthplace as part of the name but it assumes that the data I have is accurate which is not always the case.
As for the late baptisms, I came across that a couple of years ago and was shocked that in some families there could be 8 or more years between birth and baptism dates.
Add to that different birth dates between censuses, duplicate entries, people with the same biographical data ( same birth date/place/parents names etc) and the puzzle becomes a little harder.
So sadly, manual filtering only!! LOL!!
Best wishes

Late baptisms - imagine the problem I had then, when my ancestor was born in 1752 and not baptised until 1796, with his youngest daughter! Took me ages to figure that one out!
And some families seemed to have a sort of batch-lot baptism every 5 years or so - all born since included in the next !
