Arthur William Bridle 1844 Wimborne
« on: Thursday 05 June 08 19:43 BST (UK) »

Hello,

I may have an ancestor that was registered in Wimborne in 1844 to parents Robert and Caroline nee Barfoot,  I managed to find births, marriages and deaths registrations on the Shillingstone website for the rest of his family,  which has been brilliant  but unlucky for me,  I can not find Arthur's  as he was registered in Wimborne.

Would anyone who has the Wimborne Parish records would you  mind doing me a look up please on this person,  I would be so grateful.

Thank you for any help given.

I'm not sure what you are hoping to find in the registers, as you appear to know everything that an entry would tell you.

The registration district of Wimborne (where I live!) includes Hinton Martell.

In 1851 (HO107/1852) there is an Arthur W Bridle, age 6, born in Hinton Martell, living with his family in Shillingstone. His parents are Robert and Izett Jane Bridle, so he may not be a relation of yours. The only other child in the family is Martha, age 2 months.

Ten years later Robert had died and Arthur, 17; Martha, 10; and Sarah, 8 are living with their mother and stepfamily.

I can give you the full entries if you want.

Thank you to you both for responding to my query,  I do have a lot of information as I went looking through the census and Freebmd,  but I wanted to be 100% sure that Robert and Caroline were the right parents,  his Bapt information was the only one missing out of all the family,  all the rest were their on the Shilllingstone webpage,  I just wanted to confirm who his parents were,  but allibaker you have confused me with the first name but its got to be the same person,  it must be,   on freebmd it says Arthur William Bridle,  I wonder if they had a change of heart with the names between the registration of his birth and the bapt date or vice versa.

This family can not read or write and you want to see the variations of surnames that I have come up against,  Needham, Maden, Midden, Meyden and finally Maiden which we go by today,  all these variations I have found in the census and on the children's birth certificates.

I found Arthur in 1881 living in Leicestershire under  Maden,  he states his place of birth was Dorset,  he married an Elizabeth Elison so I have their marriage certificate and his surname is Needham and his fathers name is George Needham,  but  I can not find him any earlier then 1881  and it could be like my friend pointed out that his surname was maybe something else,  so she went looking and found Arthur Bridle born abt 1844 Dorset, living with a George Meaden,  Arthur's  true father Robert  married an Izett Jane White and when he died Izett remarried to George and this is who Arthur was living with and may have took his name when he married Elizabeth,  maybe he felt he had to if George was present at the marriage.

Arthur named his children Caroline, Jane, Robert and Arthur William and Elizabeth,  so it looks like he named his children after the parents and his step mother.

Thank you rjknott for your offer on  the entries but I have them thank you, and thank you allibaker for giving me the Bapt date,  I do think that they are the same person,  I am not too worried about the Alfred name and not Arthur as I have also come across in this family added middle names when earlier they didn't have them.

I am very grateful to you both for taking the time and  helping me.

Thank you

All the best.
