Wells: George 1872, Frank 1840, William 1810

Hi everyone
John Kinder married Frances Martin 18 Feb 1850 (I don't have the marriage cert but think I might have to get it!). Their children were:
John Kinder Swallow 1850 Joseph Kinder 1853 died 1863 Charles Kinder 1855 Annie Kinder 1857 Emma Kinder 1860 Henry Kinder 1861 Frederick Kinder 1863 Frank Kinder 1865
all born in Chesterfield. Don't know anything about Francis 1853.
I can't find John in 1861 either. It is a bit odd that John was just called Kinder in 1851.
Frank Kinder did marry Jane Roe Brown and they had 2 children:
Frances Jane Swallow 1893 John (Jack) Kinder Swallow 1895
Jane died in 1898 but Frank lived on until 1929.
Thanks Jane and Christine you have given me a few extra details that I didn't have.
Di

I'm getting confused as well. Have found Francis Winder Swallow on freeBMD born Q4 1851. But I can't find John who was supposedly born in 1950

Everyone has been confused now
At least it's beginning to come together, only have to find older John in 1841 and younger one in 1861.

Just thought I'd let you know I have just sent for John and France's marriage certificate. Will let you know what it says when it arrives.

Well, its arrived but to say Im bitterly disappointed is an understatement You can probably guess - there is no father named for either John or his bride Frances.
They married at the Independent Chapel, Dronfield in the District of Chesterfield on 18 February 1850. They were both of full age. His profession was Draper and they both resided at New Brampton, Brampton, Chesterfield. The witnesses were John and Mary Martin - Frances's brother and sister.
So it looks like I'll never get any further.
Many thanks to all who tried to help.

Sorry it hasn't worked out as you'd hoped.
It seems so strange how he was just Kinder and then added the Swallow later.
Had you got the birth details of John in 1822 from another family member?

Hi Di,
Sorry for the delay in replying.
It seems strange that the birth details on the gravestone tie in exactly with that baptism doesn't it and yet no father named on marriage cert.
Do you know if it's a gravestone erected at the time of death or a more recent one?

Hi Christine Here is a photo of the gravestone. Personally I would say that it was probably put up at the time of death. I'm a bit mystified because he is buried in plot no 2838 and his wife Frances purchased plot no 2909 the day he was buried. These two plots make a double plot and include all the people mentioned on the headstone. John Swallow became quite a prominent person in Chesterfield and along with his sons had the largest department store in the town. Di

The writing is very clear on the main part isn't it, I wonder if that has been redone?
It's still a mystery as to who he really was isn't it?
