Please can anyone tell me where Hepworth Parish Records can be found. I am looking for the birth of John Swallow in 1822.

It comes under Kirkburton and from the transcribed records of baptisms at All Hallows there is
Jonathan Swallow born 12th July 1821 baptised 24th Feb 1822 father William occ Tailor, mother Rachel, abode is Hepworth.
There is also Mary Swallow born 14th Sept 1826 baptised 15th Oct 1826 with the same parents.

Hi Christine
Thanks very much for your reply. My John was supposedly born 29 Aug 1822 and I don't know the names of the parents. He was always known as John Kinder Swallow - is there any chance of a John Kinder instead? Would be glad of any info.

Hi Di,
I have found it now, obviously missed it first time, don't know how I managed that.
John Swallow born 29th Aug 1822 baptised 30th March 1823 Father Benjamin, occ Clothier, mother Hannah abode Hepworth
There is also Jane born 14th Feb 1821 baptised 22nd April with the same parents.
Wonder if this could be Benjamin?
1st Jan 1792 father George, abode Barnside Hepworth.
The one in the census posted above was baptised 1819.

Hi Christine
This must be the one! Have looked on the IGI and found Benjamin marrying Hannah HEAP in 1817. Hannah's parents were Joshua and Sarah. Hannah was born 1795.
On the 1841 census for Hepworth there is a Charles Swallow (20) and Jane Swallow (20) living with Sarah HEAP (75) widow. Perhaps Charles is John?
There is a family tale that John's parents died when he was young and he was adopted by a Mr and Mrs Kinder (? of Holmfirth) and that in appreciation he added Kinder to Swallow and all his children were given that name as well. All fascinating stuff but what is the truth?
Thanks for finding him. All I need to do is trace him in 1841. I have him in Derbyshire onwards. Unfortunately the names of his children - John, Joseph, Charles, Annie, Emma, Henry, Frederick and Frank don't give any clues.
Di

Hi Jane
Thanks for the census details. I have looked at this one but am not very sure about it. I know that in 1841 the ages were different and I will keep an open mind.

Who did John marry?
~ C

John must have married someone called Frances from the later census details and there is this marriage
Mar Qtr 1850 Chesterfield 19 449
Frances Martin on the same page.
This would state his father's name to check if we have the correct baptism.

I've just seen that Jane, in 1871 John Kinder Swallow and Frances have the John K Swallow with them as son but in 1861 their eldest child appears to be Joseph age 7
I'm getting confused with this.
