death index - James John Mills, of Auckland

Hello

I'm seeking the death index reference for a James John Mills, a furniture dealer, of Auckland.
He died in October, the 3rd (or 4th?) of 1883, and appears to have been murdered at the Auckland Lunatic Asylum by a fellow inmate (named Gschnell). I found this information in a Papers Past digisted newspaper article "Murderous Assault by a Lunatic").
Also, is there anywhere I can go to find out information about the court proceedings that followed?

Can anyone out there help?

Should not need anything else to get the death certificate,

James John Mills, 1883, Auckland    is enough.   Smiley

Hi Rachel,

At last - a simpler question! Grin  All you have to do is go back to the PapersPast site and search for 'Gschnell'.  Since he's the survivor under trial there is more information under his name.  Well, at least for the papers which are searchable but gory details (excuse me) travelled well for publication back then so there is a good likelihood that what Auckland information you can't find has been replicated to the best part in other regional papers.

Thanks for your help
This morning I rang the BMD people at Internal Affairs and have ordered the printout from the death register (just to make doubly sure this is the right person). I also did what you said, Bunny, and found out more information about the Court stuff on Gschnell.
