G'day all,
I have a person with a common first name and a common surname (here we go again!) and I was hoping if anybody could narrow down more exact details of this fellow.
Adam Gibson, born in Edinburgh, Scotland, ABT 1833. He arrived in NSW approx, 1851, so approx 18 when putting his feet on Australia's shores. (He lived 62 years in NSW). I can't find whether he came alone or with family.
Any ideas about his birth and parents would be great.
Cheers
TasG

There is only 1 Adam Gibson born around that time (1830 to 1835) in Midlothian on SP site. Born 24.2.1833 to John G and Janet Trotter. It was in the Parish of Carrington or Primrose.
Might be your guy.

Hi TasG
His wife was Janet HUNTER (married NSW 1865), she died 1909 Balmain. He died 1913 Burwood NSW? I am picking neither of their death certs had parents names on them? How about the marriage?
Children from the NSW BMD: (Female) 1865 Sydney William 1869 Sydney Ellen M 1873 Balmain John J 1874 Balmain Elizabeth E 1875 Balmain Adam Henry 1877 Sydney Jean 1878 Sydney Louise 1880 Sydney Selina 1882 Balmain Lillian V J 1885 Balmain
Do you know of more children, particulary btw 1865 and 1869 and btw 1869 and 1873? The names of the children can have clues to parents.
On the IGI there is but one Adam GIBSON - recorded b 1833 Carrington, Endinburgh (same one as Daval57 finds on SP) To John GIBSON and Janet TROTTER.
Quite a large number of children in the family. In 1841, this Adam is in Carrington with his parents age 8 (one of his siblings is Helen age 18). His father was a Tailor. In 1851 he is in West Lothian with his now married sister Helen Scott, another sister Janet is with them. In 1851, his mother Janet is in Carrington with his brothers John and William, all Tailors
What was your Adam's occupation, particulary around the time he married?
Cheers AMBLY

TasG - might be an idea to link your two posts re Adam and Janet to avoid duplication of effort. Dave

G'day daval57,
Unfortunately neither marriage cert or death cert record parents names ... otherwise it would be much easier!
That's all the info I have, so it was always going to be a difficult ask. When you said I should link these messages, did you mean to just put them together or is their a linking tool? (If the latter, I don't know how!!!)
Ambly,
You've hit the nail on the thread (pun intended on the latter) as he was a tailor! Thank you for the research! I have a dissimilar list to yours regarding the children of Gibson and Hunter, but sometimes I wonder about who is right!!! I have an Ada, Thomas, Jennie, Lily, Mary, John T. and a William (who I am reseraching through). I'll reinvestigate those findings.
Cheers and thanks to both of you. Brilliant!
TasG
