I think this is your Thomas in 1891 - age is a couple of years out but that often happens and there is only one Thomas Hemstock(however spelt) with these deatails on the 1881

Now you've got me going - I hate searching the Burial Index but
there is an entry for Elizabeth Whitehead 8th June 1886 age 20 in Carlton in Lindrick making her born 1866.
Might just be her - I suspect she was the Elizabeth Hemstock born in 1866

Was born Mansfield Woodhouse and my maiden name was Baxter(not fron Ashby de la Zouch, though)but haven't lived up there for xxx years

That is who I thought it was, hence my original post. When I got the records that Tati posted, I realized that I was wrong ( I should have said...sorry  ) and so went back for another look. I then noticed the possible Whitehead connection.
That burial looks promising for Elizabeth (Well, not if you are Elizabeth.... Oh, you know what I mean ).
Thomas Hemstock in Eckington. At that time he had an aunt and uncle (my gg grandparents) and numerous cousins living there so that would make sense.
I have a copy of an entry from their family bible, naming Thomas Hempstock in a list of birthdays. His is the only one that doesn't have a date at the side. I have never been able to make a connection for Thomas to the family. This could be him.

Could you shed any light onto this that I have come across. I cannot see a birth for a Sarah Jane Hempstock, only a Jane. Could it be Sarah from 1891? Can you spot any other Sarah Hempstocks of that age in your index?

I have no explanation for Sarah Jane Hempstock.
I can't see a record for her on Notts Baptism Index and there is no Sarah Jane on the Civil Registration List bewteen the years 1871 - 1878.
The only Jane Hempstock was born in Sheffield in 1876.
The only record I can find is the one that you give in 1872 which is entered on the Notts Baptism Index:-
Wor - 15/12/1872- Sarah - Thomas - Hannah - Hemstock living Worksop, Miner
so - I just don't know!!

Thanks for all the searching for me, it is appreciated as always.
How much information does the marriage index give? Would it be too difficult to search for the marriage of Sarah Jane in the Worksop district, without knowing the parish that the marriage took place. I thought that maybe if I could find the date and parish of the marriage I could email Notts Archives with the relevant info' to maybe find out fathers name and witnesses etc.
