FRANCE: Can anybody translate a French Marriage Certificate? (1)
« on: Sunday 27 April 08 16:00 BST (UK) »

Hi,

Would it be possible for anybody to translate a French Marriage Certificate of one of my ancestors.

I have worked out some of the words, but my French is hopeless.

Thanks in advance,

Darin, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England.

Darin

I could do it for you but just need to know how much you have worked out on your own.

Hi Sasha,

Thank you for your reply.

I have worked out the following, (but am unsure of the odd word):-

1881, 18th August at 3 hours ? , (something about the municipality) - Jean Mazzei, Moulder of Statues, Bachelor, son of Louis Mazzei ? - deceased, of Pescaglia, (Italy), and Marie Rosa Lombardi, his spouse, ? - aged 59years, consents?: born 1st August 1852, in Pescaglia - (Unsure of rest).
& Evarestine Maria Lemen, ? - spinster, daughter of Andre Roland Marie Lemen  ? aged 69 - and of Maria Ann Suzanne Macon, his spouse, tailoresse? aged 53 years ? - born 29th October 1852 ? living in Nantes.

I am unsure of the rest but it obviously mentions the witnesses etc.

Any help would be greatly appreciated,

Thanks,

Darin.

Darin, I have just deleted the whole thing I had done for you so from memory I shall now try and answer your doubts:-

3pm/eldest son of LM/day labourer/dressmaker/consenting parent/had previously lived at mother's in Pascaglia but now in Nantes/EML, spinster, linen maid, eldest daughter/ARML retired Customs Official/wife tailor/consenting parents/....

Then the two Sundays the banns were posted in Nantes and Pascaglia and the certificates produced - bride and grooms birth certificates/death certificate of g's father/the legal documents from the consenting parent and parents.

Witnesses are quite straight forward I think.

Hi again Sasha,

That's brilliant, you have filled in the blanks that I couldn't work out.

Thank you very much,

Kindest regards,

Darin.
