Edward turnbull - did he go to Canada?
« on: Wednesday 14 May 08 20:43 BST (UK) »

I am looking for my GG Grandfather Edward Turnbull (for the full hunt here's the link http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,304456.0.html )

He was born in Coxhoe, Co Durham on 14th march 1845 , father Robert Turnbull, mother Margaret Balmer.  He married Annie Taylerson on 9th september 1872, they had 2 boys John and Robert then she marries John Greenwell in 1878.  Family stories are that they divorced, national archives have no record of that, we can't find a death or him on post 1871 census' so was he paid to disappear??  Did he emigrate?

I'm going to put this on all the country boards as he could have gone anywhere and I don't have the first idea where to look as no one in my family emigrated!

thank you  Smiley

HI Madpants

You can search the 1901 and 1911 census for free at www.automatedgenealogy.com

Have you checked www.ancestorsonboard.com to see if he might be on a passenger list?

I looked at that but it only starts at 1890, I would have thought that he'd have to be out of the country for her to feel safe marrying again so it'll be around 1876 -1879 possibly.

thanks for the link, I'll go look

There are lists here starting in 1865, however, they are not indexed  Sad , but according to ancestry.ca they are about to launch some big thing on immigration, so hopefully it will be an indexed version  Smiley
