there is a birth in Bridge for a Mary  Lanes Dec' qtr 1872...
2a 690,which makes her about 16 when she married if, it's her!!

Census details (1st message) show her as Mary A;   could it be her 2nd marriage as she is 4 years older than Luke?

Yes, signs are that it is her second marriage, full 1891C details are

Could do with a copy of Frederick's birth cert (he could be illegitimate) or Mary & Luke's marriage cert.

Frederick's birth 1884 in Kent but no sign of a Mr Lanes marrying a Mary.

Just found a Frederick John LANE marrying in Dec 1883 in Bridge; possible bride Mary Ann Humphreys.

On 1881 census there is a Mary Ann Humphreys, with family, living in Kingstone, Kent,  RG11 0955/60   12

As a point of interest, just located Abel Howard and wife Mary with two sons and three daughters in Brithdir on the 1891C, along with nine boarders, all building labourers, residing in George Inn Hut [Railway Contractors]
