Deakin - looking for death details
« on: Sunday 27 April 08 18:23 BST (UK) »

Hi All

I am looking for any records of Frederick Hall Deakin born Yorkshire, England 1855 and his wife Mary (Hudson) also born Yorkshire 1858. I believe they came to Canada 1910. They were accompanied by children Elsie, Frank and Hilda. I am unable to find them on the 1911 census or subsequently.

Frank later lived Drumonville, Quebec and I have found a marriage record for Hilda in Beaverton, Ontario in 1921 but have never found anything for Elsie or the parents. I know that Frederick was alive 1921 as he visited Drumonville but family tales suggest he became ill not long after and died. Mary is on her daughter Hilda's marriage record in 1921 so I guess was also alive at the time.

As I have been able to trace the family backwards in Yorkshire for several generations I would love to be able to complete the records by finding the deaths of Frederick and Mary.

I appreciate that Canadian records are by province and I am not certain where they settled in Canada but Ontario would seem a good starting point or perhaps Quebec so if anyone could give me some assistance in the search or some ideas where else I could search I would really appreciate it.

Many Thanks

Hello Redcat,

Found your family on Nanaimo Family History Society Ships Passenger List Index for 1910.They came to Canada

on ship Laurentic 30 July 1910.

If you go to Library and Archives Canada Online Help-Passenger Lists 1865-1922  they are on page 33 I believe.

Just key in name of ship and scroll through the dates until you come to July 30,1910.

Fred was not with them looks like they were joining him pages are not always very clear.

Take a look on the Ships Passenger List Index and see if you can find Fred.

Regards from very warm Calgary,

Lilybell

There is an F.H. Deakin of unknown age who also travelled from Liverpool to Quebec, Canada in 1910...but not with the family so must have come earlier as suggested...
I did a 1911 census search of all Canada & many different variations...but for
those who want to try more...
Mary was born c.1860 , Frank -1891,  Elsie -1896 , Hilda - 1899

Thanks for looking Lilybell and J.J. That is the right family. Hilda and the rest of the family came out on 23 July 1910 on Laurentic but apart from Hilda's wedding (and Frank as he is my grandfather) I didn't know what happened to them. How sad that Hilda's daughter died before she did. At least it gives me hope that I will find out what happened to Fred and Mary and also daughter Elsie.

Thank you again
