Our library does have access to Ancestry so I will have a look next time I am in there. The Drouin Collection sounds a great resource there is nothing as detailed in the UK Ancestry however civil registration started 1837 and basic records are on from then on but then you need to buy certificates for more details.
I'm not really sure how long it took to do the 1911,( collections Canada has that statement on their site pertaining to all census up to the 1911) but data collection door to door takes a fair bit of time, and if the area didn't have huge amounts of enumerators and a large demographic it would have taken longer to do...so that is why they can't say exactly how long it took. It varied according to circumstance I should imagine. Plus the chances of finding all home in one day would be...well, nil... J.J.
