Jacob Hunn
« on: Monday 28 April 08 00:23 BST (UK) »

Hi,
Once again I have hit a brick wall and need a little help!!
I have found Jacob Hunn b 1815 married to Tamasine or possibly Tamosius i think she was a Bullen b 1815. They were married in 1841 but i would dearly love to find out who their parents were.
I have got them on the 1841 census but cannot go back any further so any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thank You
Robin

Hi Robin

www.familysearch.org has a member-submitted entry (so needs to be checked against parish records) for the marriage of Jacob HUNN  to Tamasine HOLMESE    3 Nov 1835      Acle, Norfolk

also a marriage for possibly his parents (also member-submitted)
Jacob Hunn     to  Amy Jermy   6 Apr 1801      Acle, Norfolk

There are two baptisms from extracted parish records for
Jacob HUNN     Birth:  9 Mar 1810      Christening:  11 Mar 1810 Acle, Norfolk,
Parents:      Jacob HUNN    and      Amy GERMANY

and James HUNN    Christening:  22 Nov 1813      Acle, Norfolk, England
Parents: Jacob HUNN    and Amy

If you got the birth cert for the youngest child Joseph shown aged 2 on 1841 census that should give you his mother's maiden name, and a later census should show birthplaces and more accurate ages for the couple, as ages were usually rounded to the nearest 5 years.

Here's the family in 1851 (indexed with surname Henry probably because of an enumerator's mark making the last letter look like a y)  As you'll see, their ages are higher than given in 1841

HO107/1831 Folio  98  Page  14
London Street, Swaffham, Norfolk
HUNN
Jacob head m 39 Journeyman Wheelwright  Acle
Tamisine wife m 40                                       Acle

Harriet    dau     9   Scholar                          Acle

birth reg for Joseph Hunn Mar 1839  Loddon &c    13   187

hope this helps

Hello Robin, if you don't mind me asking, how are you connected to these Hunns? Jacob was my 4xgreat granduncle and the son of Jacob & Amy (Jermy) as Barbara said.
I am currently trying to connect all the Norfolk Hunns together into one family, like a restricted one-name-study, so am always interested to contact other member of the Norfolk Hunn group, particularly my own line.

I also have further info on this couple (+ ancestors/descendants) if you're interested

Hi Toban!
My Grandma was Ethel Hunn b 1905 so Jacob would be my GGG Grandpa. Since my last post I have managed to get back as far as Jacob b 1749 married to Anne Smith, but would be very interested in any info you have.
Regards

Ah, now you've got me looking for people - where does Ethel fit? I can't find her in my tree? Huh

We recently found Jacob (b. 1748)'s parents marriage, which had been eluding us for quite some time Roll Eyes. Our Hunn line, so far, goes back to Jacob's grandfather, John, who married Lydia Warner in 1711 and the tree contains over 1000 descendants of that couple. John's son Robert had four sons (John, Robert, Edward and our Jacob) who are responsible for the spreading of the Hunn name throughout Norfolk (apart from the descendants of the Norwich Hunns - thats a whole different branch! Grin)

If you want any specific info, just ask

Yup! I got as far as John Hunn and Lydia Warner  b 1695.I Have their son Robert married to a Mary Anne Sieg.
If you come forwards a bit to Jacob b 1810 married to Tamasine Holmes, one of their sons James b 1839 married Sarah Platten their son James b 1882 married Emma Jane Watts who were my Grandmas parents.
There are so many Jacobs and Jamess it can get a little complex!
Hope this ties in with your research!

Unfortunately Robin, that doesn't tie in very well at all...

If you're descended from the Platten-Hunn marriage then your not my line - you belong to the aforementioned Norwich/Fleggburgh (Burgh St. Margaret) Hunns. But it's understandable where you got lost, there are many similar names between the two branches and having two James' born in 1838/9 doesn't help matters.

Your line, as I believe it, goes as such:
Ethel (1905) - James (1882, Hoveton St. Peter; m. Emma Jane WATTS) - James (1838, Fleggburgh -  1838, Rollesby; m. Sarah PLATTEN) - John (1811, Fleggburgh - 1894, Fleggburgh; m. Sarah FROSDICK) - Henry (1765, Fleggburgh - 1816, Fleggburgh; m. Lydia KITTLE) - John (c.1734 - 1774, Fleggburgh; m. Mary CHURCH) - John (1704, Acle - 1763, Fleggburgh; Jane HOLSWORTH) - John (1671, Acle - 1721, Acle; Frances READ) - Edward (1634, Norwich - 1708, Acle; m. Sarah ...) - Robert (c. 1609, Norwich; m. Margaret GOULDMAN [dau of Peter Gouldman & Margaret Austen])

As you can see, I have accumulated (with help!) a fair amount of info on this branch also - and it goes back further than my own, so that's a bonus Grin

Any queries just ask.

As for me, I'm off to bed - cos it's 10 to 1 a.m. here in rural Victoria
Night!

T

P.S. Where did you find the marriage for Robert to Mary Ann Sieg? I was referring to the 1740 marriage of Robert Hunn to Mary Turner in Rollesby. Smiley
